Exclamation Saw a blue RX-8 this morning...hot damn..

None of the pictures I've seen of the blue RX-8 looked anywhere near as good as the one I saw in a mall parking lot this morning. That color is simply stunning.

I'm seriously contemplating trading back my 6 for a blue 8 in ATX after what I've seen today.

The 6s I have now is 5 speed manual, and I don't know if I'm aging or what the hell it is, maybe I'm getting sick of manually shifting gears.

Alright, that's not entirely true, and getting an RX-8 in automatic may be a very redundant thing to do, but that's the route I'd probably have to take since I'm going to be losing a lot of money by trading back my five month old 6.

Still can't believe how amazing the 8 looks in blue..

LOL..I bet that clutch is really soft. However, you don't know how impractical this whole idea would be for me.

I've been estimating here about the numbers I'd be working with, and I'm going to lose at least $5,000 on the 6 just at the trade-in, and then I'm going to have to pay the difference from there. In other words, it's going to cost me close to $9,000 to swap my 6 for an 8...and that's just for an automatic.

Combine how much I paid for the 6 with how much it will cost me to trade it in for an automatic RX-8 with just the Sports Package (let's say), and I'll have spent a little over $30,000 on an RX-8 that isn't even close to fully loaded.

That's a hell of a lot of money to blow just because I think a car looks pretty. I still might do it though.

I've got a 6i, and am interested in the RX-8. Since Mazda screwed me with all the recent rebates on the car, I'm out another $3000 if I try to sell now. Rediculous- one of the reasons I bought the car is because Mazda vowed not to join the rebate wars or to sell to rental fleets.

So, I've decided that I'll probably wait until RX-8's can be had used too. Hopefully that'll even things out a bit- I'll sell and buy used, hopefully making the difference in price a bit smaller.

Since I bought my 6i pretty stripped, the RX-8 would be a huge upgrade for me.

Thanks for the description! I ordered a blue 8, though I've never seen one in person, just the pictures. It's being built this week in Hiroshima for delivery in mid-October. I can hardly wait.

Absolutely positively do not trade your 6 in on an 8 right now. You know the bath you're gonna take on the 6 and, I'm afraid, the 8 will be selling for a minimum $2,000 less in 3 months than it is right now.

My fear is now that the majority of those who pre-ordered have taken delivery, inventory levels are starting to build at the dealerships. I can see that happening in Austin already. It's entirely possible that if this car doesn't catch on and if Mazda doesn't pump a ton of money into TV advertising ( I still have never seen a TV ad for the 8) then our cars might be worth less than $20,000 this time next year. For me, that would be a $12,000 hit in one year.....very similar to the 3rd gen RX7 depreciation numbers.

You sure don't want THAT double-whammy!

Yeah what's up with Mazda and no adverts?

You'd think they sold all of the cars. In Canada they seem to have this attitude that too bad if you want an 8 they are all sold. But there are a few available and well.... hmmm odd they aren't selling!

Everyone that sees the car thinks I paid $50k or more and they don't realize the great value in this car.

On the other hand, a lot of people just want an A to B car not a sports car.

i think Mazda is getting plenty advertising through word of mouth and FORUM LIKE THIS ONE

people that visit this forum are more or less pre-filtered target customer Mazda's looking for for this car :D

i don't now what's up with the TV and Radio ads...they're doing a poor job

magazine ads have been great though...every Maxim and Stuff magazine for prepubescent+ boys get to see a 2 page spread as soon as they turn the front cover...i even got 3 C&D supplements in the mail! also, i've seen about 2-3 huge billboards while driving on the expressway...

on TV, they've had it as a prize on Fear Factor...but no commercials...Mazda PR needs to get their butts movin...

I've seen billboards, mag ads (in Maxim) and two TV commercials for RX-8 tie-in with X2.

Someone on here stated that the adverts will prob start in September.... possibly to coincide with the new Fall TV season & NFL Football.

Why waste advert $$ in the summer when no one is watching TV b/c it's mostly repeats?

Guys, think about it. They are just now getting the pre-orders completed, and they are building up their stock. It doesn't make much business sense to spend money on national TV/Radio spots when you don't have that many cars to sell yet. You wait until you do.

exactly

and

"...spend money on national TV/Radio spots when you don't have that many cars to sell yet. You wait until you do."

precisely

mazda cant afford to spend big bills on advertisment to sell cars that arent produced yet, they need to stock pile, and then start advertising during the prime airwave time, not when everything on TV is several months old

Lightbulb

I just came back from a Mazda dealership. I got there right before sunset. There were SIX RX-8s, not including the one in the showroom that was just sold. I was surprised.

I saw 2 reds, 2 greens, 1 blue (delicious), 1 yellow, and 1 black (sold).

At dusk, the blue looked just like I remember seeing it in X-Men 2. It already had a deposit on it (way out of my price range anyway). Enough about that.

Sales guy told me that the two red RX-8s (one of them being auto and the other a fully loaded 6spd manual) they had have been at that dealership for over a week and a half now. (I guess red isn't very popular in this car.) They offered me to test drive one of the two reds in auto (LOL I didn't even have to ask), but I declined since I already took an auto for a spin 2 weeks ago and it was getting late anyway.

That dealer is getting a very cheap automatic in blue on the first week of September. I told them I'd get back to them by next week.

TomsterRX8- You made some very valid points I'll definitely have to consider, along with the disgusting gas mileage issue I keep reading about in this forum. I'm glad there are people like you around here who are sincere and honest enough to give the type of advice you gave me, instead of just saying something like, "Who gives a **** about the money, we're talking about an RX-*******-8 here!" Thanks for that Tom.

I agree that the blue in person is stunning. I've never considered blue for a car color, but this one is making me consider it. Like most of these colors, pictures do not do it justice at all. You must see them in person before making up your mind, IMHO.

BTW, gas mileage is as much a function of how you drive the car as it is the engine's mechanics.

I have to chime in on the blue. I was definitely leaning towards getting Titanium, which I still think is a beautiful color in this car. But once I saw the blue in person, I knew it was the one for me. Everyone has just raved about the color since I got the car. Truly, no one should buy an RX-8 without seeing all the colors first.

As for gas mileage, I just got the car and my first fill-up, I got 19 mpg. I drive about 75/25 highway/city. I was idling the car a lot, showing it off to people, so that may have hurt it a bit. The second tank looks like it's going to be a bit better, but it's still early.

Got the blue

I got mine in bue.
It IS a *stunning* blue.
I am normally not a big fan of blue for cars, and usually prefer red or black. Silver is just too darned oriental for a white guy like me.
Anyone who reads this and is asian, please don't take that as an insult, it's just that almost ALL the asian guys I know have silver or white cars!
Couple of years back I had a silver MPV, and I am almost certain I was the only caucasian in Edmonton with one.

Back to blue. I am getting a bit embarrassed. Every damned stoplight I get ogling.

I drove a friend over to the local Walmart tonight.
A bunch of young girls and guys were hanging out front as i went by.
My friend commented:
" I think you could get laid twice in about 15 minutes right now!"
Considering I am 46 and balding that was quite a compliment!

Later I drove home, and 2 cars followed me home for the last 2 kilometers or so, and they pulled up in front of my house to look at the car and ask questions.

Too cool!

When I saw my winning blue rx8 with appearance package and spoiler in the showroom for the first time (car came in while I was on vacation) it brought tears to my eyes. It was much more beautiful than in the pictures. Color is drop dead gorgeous. I get stopped all the time when I'm driving it, kids come up to the window and stare inside, I'm constantly getting thumbs up and people pointing. I feel like a goddam celebrity with this car. I am so glad I picked the blue. I usually only get black or red for sporty cars but decided for such a different car might as well get a different color. Unfortunately I have to keep this beautiful car on the street, does anyone have any tips on keeping this paint job looking good?

As for gas mileage, thank God I looked down at the fuel gauge when I did (thanks to reading this forum) because I didn't realize how low it had gotten. I think I got about 8 mpg with the first tank. I just filled it up again and now I will monitor it with the tripometer and figure out exactly what I'm getting.

I saw a blue one today. To be honest I think the blue looks ugly as hell, not nearly as nice as the red or black. It's just not sexy at all.

Rodmeister question

When did you order your car and how did you find out when it was built? I have gotten zero emails from my dealer or Mazda and I put my order in August 8th. The dealer said it would be an August build date but still ahve not heard if they have built it yet. I am assuming I will get my car in mid to late October. I am in the Midwest.

Blue People

You're either a Blue person or not. I wear blue shirts, blue caps, a Rolex Blue Submariner, sleep in blue sheets, eat cereal with blueberries ..you get the idea. So ordering a blue RX-8 came naturally. Did I mention my 1982 RX-7 was blue as was my 1992 Dodge Stealth, and my first car, a light blue 1970 Toyota Corona?

I admit the Silver and Titanium looks super. Very elegent and expensive looking. Maybe even better looking than the blue...someone help me....stop me before I buy something blue again.

I just noticed this web site is BLUE!!!!!!!

The blue is nice, I have only saw it once quickly, it was pulling up beside me while I was pulling away from the dealer in my RED one
