My 2008 40th Anniversary , bought new June, 2009, has 23,000 mileage and has been 100% trouble free. From what I believe, a rotary engine does very poorly when it sits idle for months at a time, as in winter...drys out the apex seals. Mine runs once or twice a week, 125 miles each time or more, and has been amazingly perfect. It has all options except the NAV.
With changing family size, I need to put her up for sale this summer..Booo :( :tear: Sell me the spoiler, i need one. :yesnod: |
Have only had my 8 for a few months, and really haven't gotten to drive it as much as I want to yet, BUT I have to say I love this car. My wife and daughter love going for rides in it and I love driving it. The handling is amazing, I like the power delivery, not explosive, but extremely managable. You can drive very calmly and just get where you have to go, or at any moment go into "play" mode and have a blast without the penalties of a horrible ride and road noise, etc.
I know it needs a little extra attention as far as oil consumption, but I got this car to be one of my hobbies, so that's not an issue. I have an '05 Shinka 6MT. I have owned a Miata, loved it too, but it had an untimely death after a run in with a telephone pole.... long story.... no I wasn't drinking. |
Lone accident?

All I can say is, bumble bees + convertible top down = bee in crotch and Miata through telephone pole..... True story....:yesnod: |
I just realized that I never put in my vote. I voted highly satisfied, of course.

2006 RX8 highly satisfied
I did my research prior to purchase, so no complaining about the mpg's for me. I love the car. I even love the extra TLC you have to give the car. Makes me feel like I'm driving a true sports car, like a fine Swiss watch. I can go from suburb streets to uptown and never feel like I don't belong. It's perfect.

Nice to hear about it. Have fun with it, enjoy.

Love how the car drives and handles but it sucks alot of gas:wavey:

Love my 8. 8 years 135k miles still going strong. Relatively problem free for the entire time. Pretty amazing if you ask me, especially considering it is a first year model. Haven't changed the oil in almost 80k miles either!! Just keep adding a new quart religiously every few thousand miles. Believe it or not :) |
Thatz amazing !
U must have cleared the carbon out religiously too with high revving eh :) |
^ Lol that's what I was thinking. Its good to hear so many people love their car
|
wish the 8 would be cheaper to maintain a gave a better mileage on fuel..
|
i'm a newbie! =^..^=
would be totally satisfied if i didn't buy my RX8 in the production year (2004) and waited until the "bugs" were worked out. have had many mechanical problems but LOVE, LOVE, LOVE driving my car!!! gas milage sucks! (13-15 mpg) but still keep paying Mazda to fix it and will keep it until it dies!
|
I love my rx8.
If you're a new buyer and reading this, this car is VERY underrated. don't believe the rumors and the myth, do your own homework, drive an 8, and see what we see. 3 years, no issues. I'm due to change my coils soon though. |

That's true love rightz there... |
Love my 8 with the exception of blind spots. It's just fun to drive, easy to handle and if cared for right, holds up well after years of driving. I don't seem to have the gas mileage issues that others seem to talk about, so now I love it more. ;)

Bought the 40th Annerversary RX8 brand new in December 2008 and it was 258 of 400 (UK) fantastic all I ever wanted from a weekend car......forget the £80 ($131) to fill the tank for 300 miles driving cos the excitiment of the acceleration around the tiny country lanes is worth every penny!!

Oh my god, we are so lucky with our gas prices in the USA, even as they seem high compared to the past. I could not afford to buy gas for my 40th anniversary edition RX8 if I lived in the UK. There were 1000 of them made for the USA. Here in the states they are metropolitan gray mica exterior color with cosmos red interiors. In the UK are they white like the 40th Anniversary editions in Japan ?
Best to you. |
