Love the car, EXCEPT:

1 - AC is weak..no auto-temp settings..would be nice on a 30K car, huh?

2 - Freaking label (audio/tune) on the left-hand side of the CD unit, came off when I took a brush end that was attached to a vacuum cleaner...suffice to say, I know have led lights shining at me, and Mazda is telling me that I "abused" it..WTF??? How is vacuuming the CD unit with a brush to collect the dust "abusing" it..then..stop by the parts department and found out that the label can not be ordered..have to replace the whole freaking unit for a @#$# label!!! Bad, bad design.....am waiting for resolution.....if they replace it at their cost, then this will not be a bad experience....

3 - For those who have moon roof package..be nice to have a one button close instead of holding the button down to do it

These are minor complaints, but nevertheless, one which Mazda will improve on their future models...

AC is weak? Wow my car is 111 degrees or more when I get in and it and it cools down right away. This was actually a huge buying point for me here in South Texas.

Huh..interesting..I wonder if AC varies from one 8 to the next? Considering the comparment size of our 8, blasting the AC on at full strength, and lowest setting, and it still doesn't feel that cold..granted, if I leave it on long enough it will get cold enough..that is why I said it was "weak."

Yeah, definantly use the recirc during the summer otherwise it's working overtime trying to cool 100 degree air. Not to mention it keeps outside odors from intruding.

Yup, recirculating the cabin air..no-brainer..still..doesn't seem to be that strong/efficient for the cabin that needs to be cooled.....

Good news!! Mazda agreed to foot the bill to replace my cd unit because of the stupid label that got sucked into the vacuum cleaner!! I would of just love to replace only the label, but when they built this thing, they didn't think that the label would be sucked into a vacuum cleaner.....

Suffice to say, big points for them on willing to satisfy a customer!!! And Mazda, I'm NOT going to take a vacuum cleaner anywhere near any labels..so..for those owners who are **** about keeping their interior spotless, keep it away or you might not be as lucky as I am on getting Mazda to shell out $500 for a freaking label!!!

I am tolerant of the fuel economy. That was not the reason I was purchasing this sports car. I am flustered after reading other threads on this forum about engines, transmissions, air conditioners failing and worry about long term reliability especially after the warranty period expires. I have had my Velocity Red 2004 4AT for 32 month and 28,000 miles, most of which were driven with a great big smile. The single flood no start creeped me out on the dependability side since no amount of home remedies would get it to start so the flat bed took the car away to the dealer. AARRGGHH. The poll on this forum is flawed since many owners reply initially that they have not had a flood but later they do and there is no way to back out their NO vote and replace it with YES. I wish I had the higher horsepower offered by the 6MT and a dose of low end torque to make me happier. Various dealers can be argumentative or supportive, some looking for any way OUT of servicing the car under warranty while others seem to genuinely care. Regarding the flood no start, they argue that the engine is a race car engine and needs the special care of no cold shut downs yet they will also whine that reving a 6MT to 9000 rpm is abusing the car. Hey, you can't have it both ways. Either the flood issue is inexcusable on a street vehicle or set the redline at 3500 RPM and try to sell the car.
The car is easily as much fun as my 1979 RX-7 was back in 1978, but I grade my overall experience as a cautious Somewhat Satisfied.

The best car I have ever had - by a long way and to be honest I cant understand the MPG problem. The worst I have ever had out of a tank is 275 miles to the red light (all town driving) and the best 387 miles to the red light ( nearly all motorway )

Never understood the AC bitches, in the 90's here and AC works just fine on my 2004. I mean, trying to measure the air temp to a few degrees or two? How ****, people just looking to bitch about something.

I really dont like the survery questions. I think there should be a mostly satisifed between Highly Satisfied and somewhat satisfied. I voted somewhat satsified. I am not letting the fact that my car died today at lunch and the lack of roadside assitance influence me because it is the same RA as every other car dealer has.

I like the car and have used it primarily as a business car and it has been very good.

There are two negatives IMO.

1) The gas mileage is worse than expected. Yes I knew it was rotary but I thought the Renesis was supposed to be a improvement in gas mileage. I dont' get near the estimates.

2) The performance isn't there. The 0-60, and 1/4 mile times are behind almost every single car in it's class. The S2000, Z4, Nissan Z, etc. all are faster. It is the slowest car to it's direct competition. Mazda didn't help it's case by overstating it's HP. Someone tell me Mazda did not know of the EPA standards???

I am not ditching the car though. I am pleased in every aspect other than those 2.

Dean

I love my 8. I've had it for over a year now and if no one else is around when I get out of it, I walk backwards just admiring how damn sexy it looks. I've only had a few problems, brake squeal, and rough idle. Both of these were fixed by my dealership without any questions and with the utmost help and courtesy.

I would love some more mileage and more tourque but if you learn how to work the car, you can et over these problems and there's always the supercharger.

This is by far the smoothest sportscar I have ever ridden in and the most comfortable as well.

So far no problems with my RX-8, but I've only had it since August 3rd.

Things I would like to have (that have been mentioned b4):
1. Auto climate control
2. Auto up on the drivers window and up/down on the passenger side
3. Power back/forward and recline on passenger seat
4. Better MPG (could be said for a lot of cars though) and a 2+ gallon larger gas tank
5. CD changer standard (seems to be in 2007 finally)/AUX input standard
6. Getting rid of Bose and using some other higher end make in all Mazdas
7. Gas cap holder

after having owned a slew of other cars, the RX-8 has satisfied me, but only to an extent, I still would like the same rx-8, with about 75hp more

Getting ready for my second oil change and absolutely no problems. The appearance of this car does something to people - most want to come over and talk about it (thus I learned that the clutch in the new Lincoln moves to adjust to the drivers feet - but the Lincoln driver was almost weeping with envy) - I think what is holding people back is that they assume that anything this beautiful is priced beyond their hopes, also the unusual engine scares some off. I only wish I had a second one just to keep under wraps and use for really special occassions while I drive the wheels off this one!
