The 350Z is faster isnt it? It does the quarter mile in 14 flat where the 8 does it in like 14.5 right?

With the 350Z's some of the guys with 6MT's can break into the high 13's lie 13.8-13.9 stock but with the autos it's about 14 flat or so. Mine is an auto. The MT's have less drivetrain loss and a slightly lighter transmission but the autos are close because it shifts super fast and never misses a shift. The autos have the same trans as the Titan BTW.

Although there are 8 that people mod to run the 1/4 it is not typicaly a car you buy for that. And yes, don't listen to the S2000 guys. I was driving a 2001 when I bought my 8 in '04. Never regreted it once. I have almost 70,000 miles on mine with no problems. The only thing was they replaced the left tail light due to moisture in it and the passenger sun visor broke. Both replace under warranty with no hassle at all from the dealer.

Reliability/Durability questions

Id like to know about the reliablity and durability of the RX-8 transmission and anything that connects to it on back (clutch, master/slave cylinders, driveshaft, diff, axels, hubs etc)..

How are the manual transmissions in terms of reliability.. do they last, have issues? Are there fixes or certain years of the cars which have less problems?
How is everything everything else in that respect...

How is the drivetrain when it comes to increased load?(more tq/hp)
Is it durable, do the transmissions/gears hold up, the axels strong?

Im planning on using the drivetrain in a mazda3 rwd conversion.

Thanks for any help and info..

A lot of work and expence, but it would be different. You would catch a lot of people by surprise.

The tranny feels nice, but they're delicate and prone to breaking.

All model years are basically the same. The newer ones have slightly modified shift forks or something, but it's still a weak *** transmission.

Of course, had my transmission not started having issues at 30k miles BEFORE I was turbocharged, I might not be as harsh on this topic as I am now, but if you look around, it's very common for the tranny to have issues and start doing the grinding thing after a short time.

Charles is developing new internals for it, which will go a long way to helping it out.
