RX8 really has 220 hp.

i have a old magazine from road and track, and it has the RX-01, which is a concept car. it say's the new 13B, not TT was more effecient than the old 13B. and get this, their #s for that engine is 220HP at 8500 RPM, 159 lbs at 6000 RPM. sound fammilliar? the RX8's only got what? 185 to the rearwheels. and if a S2000 which has 240 at crank, but only 200 at the wheels. it just seems that the RX8 only has 220

Do you really think mazda would make a mistake the second chance they had to make it right? I don't.

Well maybe we'll all get another letter from Mazda offering another buyback......I'd have no problem selling it back and turning around and buying another one...FOR THE SECOND TIME :D

Dman...

I'm interested in seeing the scanned article if your offer to scan is still good. Your estimate of 220 hp is as good or better than most guesses. It jives with the 178/190 hp dyno readings we have been seeing at the rear wheels and is consistent with my 'seat o the pants estimate on my car. If any of these air intake changes or Canzoomer's fuel remap really work, I'm buying! All this hp stuff is making me consider asking the 'CFO in our household for a Gtech...

First they claimed 250hp.
Then they changed that claim to 247hp
Then they changed it to 238hp.

They are sticking with that.

I personally believe about 210-220hp.
Based on my measurements, and others.

Until someone pulls an engine, and does the tests per the SAE certification method, it is a moot point, as we just do not "know".

But, yes Mada lies, and they are also somewhat confused a lot of the time too.

So what? It can be fixed.
And still be a lot less expensive than the competition, and is a much classier car than anything even slightly close to it's price range.

If you want to fix it, the solution is available.
Ask me about it ( preferably by private email as this has been thoroughly discussed already!)

But first maybe read this:

You have a new engine on the way, don't you? No need to pull it, but it would be damn tough to get the dealer to agree letting the engine get dynoed and then installing it under warranty.

about the ECU adding more fuel because of only the rear wheels are spinning. wound't mazda back that up in the begining and not give buyback? no service? no $500? if they already knew the ECU was gonna do that to the engine, then they have nothing to lose. i don't hate RX8's.. i wish they made them in white....

Even if I wanted to, consider these obstacles:

1) The dealer will be installing it. I don't get to play with it first.
2) It has to be broken in.
3) While there are a few dynos around, I know of no local engine dynos
4) To set up an engine on an engine dyno is a bunch of work, involving adding enough external parts, etc. to make the engine and ECU run as if it were in the car.
5) I am certain in my heart that Mazda would consider this a warrnaty voiding step..

So, no, not a very practical choice for me.
And, frankly, I do not care very much.

As long as we know we can fix it, and do so at a reasonable price, with reasonable gains, who cares?

They do, but they do not import them to North America.

I believe Mazda lied, but the car is still bad *** as it is. I bought mine after all the hoopla based on a test drive. Its still plenty quick, handles with the best of em and looks bad ***, inside and out. Plenty bang for your $. Plus, canzoomer can make em faster.

I'd buy the white over any color.

Well, considering that this same thing happened a couple of years ago with the Miata, Mazda does have some kind of "track record" in the subject...

They'll do as much as they can get away with. It's all between the marketing office and the lawyers.

Exactly how I feel too. I think they are STILL lying, but knowing that, you test drive the car and buy it for what it is and not for what it is "supposed" to be. If you drive the car and it feels slow to you, it doesn't matter if Mazda says it has 350hp, don't buy it if that's not what you are looking for. If it feels fast enough, it doesn't matter if Mazda says it has 85 hp, right?

I don't want to be mean, but why close this thread? Nobody is forcing you to read this thread...it's no mystery that this was a horsepower thread (RX8 really has 220 hp). If people keep replying to horsepower threads, it's because they still have an interest in the topic. If they truly didn't care, they wouldn't bother replying.
