RX8 Performance Undertray

I understand this may be taboo around here, but I was looking at this undertray, just the simple aluminum one. Does anyone have it? Is the quality ok? I mean, I get that it's the cheapest option available, but I NEED any undertray, and this looks to be a decent option. I did search, btw.

Thanks guys!

I've been on here ever since I bought my car nearly two years ago, I'm more of a lurker than a poster....I've always enjoyed this site until this. It makes one feel unwelcome. Trust me, I've seen other members flamed because of idiotic, pointless posts, and made an effort to not become a part of that.

It's because of responses like these. The only thing I found was the one with the secondary coolers, which isn't what I want. I clearly stated that.

As far as being in the correct forum, gosh I'm so sorry. It seemed appropriate.

Thanks for your help though.

That looks better?

You won't get much info on parts from that vendor, because he was involved in a fairly big scandal several years ago, scammed several members out of a bunch, sliding out from under the obligation with a bankruptcy. He has rejoined the forum several times under different business names trying to continue selling his products and has been banned each time. That name is his latest. Typically posts discussing him and his products get more emotional focus than actual content focus, which is understandable since several people that lost thousands are still here.

On topic, Mazmart has the OEM undertray for a reasonable price I believe. I don't know your needs specifically though, if it's just any undertray or a specific feature or attribute you need out of a non-OEM one.

Thanks for that ^

But, understood on that vendor. I was just looking for something a bit more...visually appealing, as I've got a replica MS front end, and you're able to see more of the under tray than you would with an OEM bumper while standing in front of the car looking down on it, that and I just like the idea of the aluminum. Not really for any performance benefit.

Any OEM one would work just fine I suppose. I just need something to protect the radiator/condensor and keep the coolant temps down more effectively, than, well, not having one.

Thanks for your help RIWWP.

I have that tray, with the cooler, but it's available without. Works fine. The hardest part is drilling out the rivets connecting the vertical sides to the horizontal tray.

Why don't you just make one.
Its just 2mm alloy sheet. Drill out the rivets off the original one and use that as a template to make the new one out of alloy.
I've made two of these so far and an alloy undertray may add a little weight, but it is a lot stronger then the original plastic one.
Have fun

Funny, I was looking around the forum 2 days ago about this same tray haha. I heard about the scandal and everything from a friend, but honestly, the tray this guy is selling is aluminum AND cheaper than the OEM plastic try (im pretty sure).. So thats a good reason right there to buy it. Its also not gonna get busted as easily.
I think Im going to order sometime this week.

Yes, and it's rather simple to make it at home. However, unless one has a pretty good-sized shear and some other equipment, it'll be hard to make one that looks nice. With the retail cost of material, one would save ~$50-$60 or so. (Overseas more of course the the expensive shipping.) Wasn't worth it to me; may be worth it to others.

Be aware that the OE "Appearance Package" and "Base" trays are different lengths, due to how they mate up to the front bumper. The AP version is ~1" shorter. If there's any question which you have, talk or email the-name-that-shan't-be-mentioned. A couple of measurements should make it clear.

I have one, along with 3 other local guys. I got it delivered less than 72 hours after ordering it, but we are in the same state. The roads in Jacksonville are **** and this tray has saved my *** several times and has held up great.

I totally forgot about this. Yea I have it installed. its great. I dont have a front lip on my car, so I improvised a little with making it look alright in the front. it is fully connected at the sides to the rest of the oem parts underneath, you just cant see because its dark. next up is putting a new lip on. (those are tight coiled stretch springs on the front, they give the front a little bit of flex in either direction but are tough) The install is very easy. you just use the 2 oem screws in the back that the old tray was attached with and then the harder part is getting the rivets off the side pieces that connect to the oem under tray. hardware is provided to attach the side pieces to the new tray as replacement for the rivets. its really simple.

have you priced the black plastic lip across the bottom of the front bumper lately, MSRP on that is now $300+, about what the appearance package air dam used to sell for

it makes the undertray seem cheap in comparison

there were several other existing threads on the same subject already, instead of being oversensitive try to understand what the real issue with continuously starting new threads needlessly is about

if you get a new neighbor and they have a punk band playing music as loud as possible at 3 AM on a weekday when you have to go to work early you'd be upset by their lack of decorum too ....

Maybe I will construct a whole splitter to put on instead. the local guys where I am keep going on about making a "home depot lip". apparently it looks pretty good. I def wont be buying an OEM one.. way too expensive.

I ordered one a little while ago, and it showed up yesterday. Looks nice, shame it'll probably get bashed up with the luck I have.
