RX8 / Mazdatrix

We should be getting our RX8 this week - along with everyone else in that first order batch.

I do not get a chance to read this forum very often, so mailing to mail@mazdatrix.com with "RX8" in the subject line would be best.

We will be developing parts and accessories as soon as possible for the new car, but I'd sure like to hear what all of you have on your "wish list(s)", AND the order you would like to see them developed -- (can not do everything at once!).

Please keep in mind that quite a few things will require R&D, testing, changing, production, etc. before being ready to market.

Let us know --
Dave Lemon, Owner @ Mazdatrix

...advertising, no, but grass-roots market research.

T-Man?? Sput?? this seem cool with you?? i kinda like the idea of people just coming and asking what we want them to make for us.

I have no problem if it is market research, as long as products are not being advertised directly and posted in the proper forum.

Welcome Dave! Numerous other suppliers had the prototypes templated for several months now. Hope you're not playing catch-up.

Well Toadman says its ok so the first thing I would like to see is a new exaust system. Obviously for performance, but also to give it a deeper sound. But I'm sure this would be put into motion without me mentioning it.

How about a cheaper implementation of those aluminum fender strakes. $250 from mazda for 4 pieces of aluminum is a bit steep! That should be simple enough.

Dave,

Being an FD owner I have had the privledge of dealing with MazdaTrix for the past 5 or 6 years. You guys have always been very helpful and I appreciate it.

I would like to see the following offered for the RX-8:

1. CARB legal intercooled turbo setup
2. Mid-pipe
3. Catback
4. Remapped ECU to raise redline to 10k or whatever is feasible
5. Stiffer swaybars
6. Adjustable ride height coilover setup
7. Intake if the factory intake proves to be restrictive
8. A way to mount a 4 point harness

I know MazdaTrix has stayed away from ECUs and "chips" in the past. So I'm not sure if you want to go down this road or not with the 8. In that case the turbo setup and remapped ECU would obviously be off the list.

Thanks
Mike

how about some fancy plastic covers under the hood to change the look a little different colors or perhaps some mazda emblems to color match the car or some custom paint job. there has to be something you could do to those plain black covers. not the big renesis engine one, but the smaller plain black ones.

I've been doing business with Mazdatrix for nearly 10 years now, They are a great shop.

Here's a list I sent them to start on:

* A replacement center console, where the radio goes, that sould accept a standard DIN radio.

* An analog speedometer that fits into the right gauge pod

* K&N Drop in air filter and/or less restrictive air box (if possible)

* Full dual exhaust, with dual cats?

* Coil Overs

I want to second a vote for these items. I wonder if the ECU is a "flash" memory type chip that is more easily reprogrammed. It might be easier if Mazdatrix recruited some of the other tuners that specialize in this type of memory.

I would love to be able to get the cosmetic accessories, i.e., various external body trim pieces, door sills, exhaust finisher, plus interior pieces, BUT at a reduced price from the (seemingly) way overpriced Mazda offering.

I mean $39 for (4) rotary shaped valve caps, $45 for (2) plastic door guards, $270 for (2) aluminium sill plates, I could list almost all of it, is rather outrageous no matter what it looks like!!

Help us with this fun stuff... please!

Rear Fog lamp (LED Version Preferred)

It would be real cool if there were LEDs that also chased around the perimeter in three segments (mimic the look of the rotor revolving)

Should we compile a master list and post it for any tuners to refer to when they might visit? Maybe a poll of what you would like after we get an idea of what we need. I know at least 400 people will send this guy a wish list of stuff that is mostly repeats and he will have to sort through all of the crap. Here's what I would like to have available.

1. Intake and exhaust upgrades, you can't make power unless you can flow mass amounts of air.

2. ECU programming to take advantage of the new ability to breath, clear any speed limiter that applies, adjust rev limiter, start the fans at a lower temp and have a timer for when the car is shut off, reverse the function of DSC button (default off)

3. Guage face with a 12k tach and recalibrator (to match my new rev limit )

4. Shifter boot to match red or chaparrel interior

5. Carbon/fiberglass hood with heat extractors and ram air intake (if they can make a efficient air box to mate with it, so yes it needs to be functional).

Oh yeah and some NOS, it doesn't have to be run to the motor I just want to be able to purge it when I'm sitting at red light and give the dude riding the harley behind me a little buzz:D

But seriously, a small dry system would be fun and simple if the stock fuel system can handle it, if not wet wouldn't that tough either.

You may be right, but many Cycles have tail lights that blink when the brake lights are applied. Maybe that would be the compromise, only have them chase when the brakes are applied.

I'm still a bit upset that the rear tail lights are NOT LEDs. Come on Mazda. Almost every 18 wheeler has them, Caddy has full LED tail/stop lamps on most of their new models.

Mazda missed the boat on this, seeing that the RX-8 is all new, why use old bulb technology.

1) Most of the stuff the others asked for

2) A piece for the rear along the bottom to match the Appearance package and cover the plain black plastic as well as finish off the exhaust pipes nicer.

3) reasonable pirces! :D

PLEASE DO #2 (and at #3 cost :D). That's the first thing I really want to change about the car...I think that the black is very tacky looking and does not finish the rear of the car well at all. It also, in low light, makes the rear end look higher off the ground and out of proportion. Why Mazda didn't color match this piece is beyond me...and while it doesn't look entirely unliveably bad, I'd change it if I could.

Oh, and the Mazdaspeed rear view mirrors are pretty slick too.

Oh, I almost forgot. Depending on how the gear ratios are worked out right now, it might be advantageous to offer a shorter or closer ratio gearbox. From what I've seen, it seems that the gears (the 1st several, anyway) are a little tall. Expensive, yes. Worth it to the serious enthusiast, yes also.
