RX8 Key

I don't recall the RX8 key looking like this...

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/4...99e30000001610

Just curious if it's possible to get one in the US or is it a Japan/Asia part only?

A few have tried, but as far as I know, no one has suceeded. They had trouble coding the key. It's available in Japan only I think. A search should be able to clear things up for you. Try Canzoomer in the venders' section, there is a thread on that.

Try this:

Thanks for the links. I wonder if anyone tried getting their keys coded through Mazda NA or if they contacted them about the key.

Guys that key is available in the UK! I was going to order it with my car, but the guy said its not really worth the £168-00 price tag.

Its called the "execuctive key", found in the accessories brochure

The key does work. I'm living proof. Check out this link for info:

Sue Esponte 03-12-2004 01:40 PM

Hold on...it DOES work? You never followed up on that final post. Did you try it with the 3 keys as SHOWOFF suggested? Did it reprogram the key?

-Eric

my10ae 03-12-2004 02:05 PM

Yes I did and all worked ok. Was programmed in a matter of 5 mins... :D

G8rboy 03-12-2004 02:12 PM

Damn- Since you never followed up that thread I assumed that it didn't work and I had forgotten all about it.

Now that it's back on the table... what are good sources for it now? Anyone know if the price has come down at all?

Sue Esponte 03-12-2004 02:18 PM

Okay, so the key would cost about $70, right? And an owner could program it on their own!?!? That's a great deal for an expensive key! :D lol

Where did you get yours from?

-Eric

megauo 03-12-2004 02:25 PM

Hi there,

I can confirm this is available as an option in Europe, but the price is radiculous at ~$150 and $150 for the case.

Sorry, but no info about the US though.

Arcane 03-12-2004 02:28 PM

at the end of that thread quoted above, my10ae...you stated it's still not working...

am i missing something?

Sue Esponte 03-12-2004 02:38 PM

Click to the next page...another member suggested a fix and he's saying that the suggested fix DID work.

-Eric

moRotorMotor 03-12-2004 03:45 PM

So we now know it works and you can program it yourself. Do you think that the key is worth that much money though?

I, Claudius 03-12-2004 04:16 PM

Here's what the Japanese copy says:

"The Mazda RX-8 Executive Key - the ultimate accessory for the discerning driver. The Executive Key will enhance your RX-8 ignition experience beyond your wildest dreams. You'll feel the difference the moment you slip the Executive Key into the ignition of your RX-8, gently turn it, and feel the powerful, purring richness as our exclusive Mazda Luxury Igniton Sparkİ (available only with the Executive Key) brings your Renesis engine to throbbing, intense life. Your RX-8 will run more smoothly, accelerate more quickly, and attract even more attention. Once you've used the Mazda Executive Key, every other key in the world will seem somehow inadequate."

Or something like that. My Japanese isn't so hot.

my10ae 03-12-2004 04:30 PM

Sorry, I was able to program my key according to the instructions that were posted on this forum. As far was being worth $70, nah.. not really worth it. It does look cool. One big drawback is that you can't attach the key fob. It looks goofy with such a nice key and a crappy ass key fob for the doors.

I bought my key, case and lanyard from JT-Imports

B-Nez 03-12-2004 08:15 PM

Did your RX-8 run more smoothly, accelerate more quickly, and attract even more attention? Or at least come to throbbing, intense life?:D

Is that the remote opener in the case? Or is it possibly built into it?

Is the Remote FOB different in Japan? That's pretty slick, I might have to get one of those for my B-Day...

my10ae 03-13-2004 07:39 AM

That is the problem, our remote fobs do not fit in the case like the J-spec ones do. Our key fobs are wider and doing have the buttons down the middle, like in the picture. I have been contemplating on whether I should "cut" the foam inside the case to fit our key fobs.

If you get one, just get the key and laynard (its pretty cool with the RX-8 rotary motif on it). Check out in the pic I took: http://www.mstersmiata.org/Kev/8key3.jpg

Yes, try the almighty search button.

SikRedRX-8 03-13-2004 06:02 PM

What does fob mean? you say it so much.

Fob just means the keyless remote unit.

Omicron 03-13-2004 06:11 PM

Sure wish I could get a combo remote/key. Anyone seen anything like this for the '8, or one that could be made to work? Yeah, I know there's a unique ID chip in the key, and the remote is just for Mazdas, but these things are usually sourced to the manufacturers at one of very few wholesale suppliers...
