rx8 with hayabusa engine?

Has anybody tried this? I thought it would be interesting. Its the only alternative engine I can think of that would give the 8 insane amount of power and yet keep its balance and weight.

Insane amount of hp? Are you serious? lol... I thought hayabusa were around 180 hp , the only reason bikes are fast is because they are light weight. I have a bike so i know. Putting it in a 3000 pound car wont do it any good lol. But then again i dont know the gains when adding aftermarket stuff on it , like a turbo etc.

isnt a busa engine only like 160hp?? amazing on a motorcycle but **** on a car, the rotary isn't as light as you think btw an LS1 wouldnt change the dynamics that much and only adds about 50lbs. food for thought.

Yeah - if people wanted 160hp from the RX8, they just need to buy the AT version. :D

The Suzuki GSX1300R, also known as the Hayabusa, is a hypersport motorcycle introduced by Suzuki in 1999. It has a 1299 cc inline-4 engine rated 175 bhp
Power: 156.1 hp (116.40 kW) @ 9500 rpm at the rear wheel

u can tune a hayabusa engine to over 500whp with a turbo/nitrous setup, plus they have insanely high redlines.

though i question putting it in a rx8, but a 300hp miata with a screaming 16000 redline does sound kinda attractive hehe

but is that 500whp on a bike? or on a car?

i would suppose that the a car would lose more hp from the engine to the wheels than a bike would. but still, 450+whp rx8? sounds sweet in my book. imagine all the magazines your car would be in if it had a 16k redline. hah. you would have to custom make that tach.

450+ whp sounds good...But what about torque, cant imagine a bike engine would have tremendous amounts of torque...

I'm pretty sure I've seen a turbo busa engine on an Elise somewhere before.

And I definitley have seen a turbo Busa engine in a smart car..thing...whatever it was. It smoked a Ferrari.

But for the 8...probably not.

meh.

I'd rather build a v-12 of 2 to 2.5 liters, built *like* a superbike engine (hi-revving, quad-cam, IRTB or Weber twinchokes) and drop it into a Miata.

Think about it. 12-banger Miata revving to 10 grand or so. Sounds kinda intoxicating to me..

But for the Rx-8? Never. The only pistons I want in my Rx-Anything is the ones in the hydraulic systems

The engine was NOT designed to load 3000+ body. period.

You just need to build a 2.8 liter V8 based off of 2 Hayabusa engines. It's not cheap though.

Nope, bad idea. You'd have to rename the car "HX-8" and that doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

I was just curious. Im pretty sure that the hayabusa engine is well capable of puttting out at least 300hp, I've seen them in cars before, but then again, these where pretty light, barely street legal cars. just a thought

if you put that engine in the 8 the mpg would go from 40+ to 18city/24hwy

Think T-Rex. It has a 1164 cc engine in it, only weighs 900lbs and goes 0-60 in 4.1 seconds. That same engine on a motorcycle probably excelerates to 60mph in 2.6 sec and weighs rougly 450lbs (the bike). So strap that engine to a 3000lb car = slow. Im sure somebody will do the math, but im too lazy and at work right now. I know the T-rex motor is not a busa, but its pretty close. I've driven the T-rex before and it is a blast to drive, but i couldn't imagine what it would be like to drive with 2100 more lbs. Here is the T-rex website.

http://www.go-t-rex.com/specifications.asp?nav=en-us

Yeah Busa's can put out impressive HP numbers, but once you start pushing a motor like that they become pretty tempermental from what ive seen.

The Mazda 2.2 Turbo package weighs about 345 lbs complete with a skid to ship it on. Thats about 70 - 80 lbs more then the Renesis.

Run the boost up another 4-5 PSI and it will get 280 HP to the wheels with exceptional torque at 2500 RPM. No doubt someone will try this over the next few years.

You could do it but your biggest problem is your gearing. And it's difficult to change because the transmission and crankcase are one piece. And a Busa has a super tall gear ratio so you can actually give it gas and not flip over instantly, thus a Hayabusa will do 94mph in first gear. But in a 3000lbs car, you will just put around.

The record for power from a Busa is in the 675-rwhp neighborhood, but they have been punched to 1500cc and run on nitro methane and are totally unstreetable. The street cap is around 400-rwhp running high boost.

But none of this matters because the Busa has a complicated ECU (nothing compared to the 8, but still.....) with tilt angle sensors, kickstand sensors and other sensors that won't work in the car. And you would loose your A/C for sure.

The transmission also sends it power out on the secondary shaft horizontally (on the bike) because it's chain drive with a spur and pinion gear. So you would have to position the engine transversely in the RX-8's engine bay so the transmission could turn a driveshaft, but there isn't enough room for it to line-up with the rear end, so you have an off-set angle for the driveshaft, making this even more difficult.

But you could realistically get 400-rwhp out of a properly tuned and boosted Busa engine in a car and it would be quick with a custom set of gears. But you are going to spend over $14,000 easy.

I'm not jsut talking outta my ***- I went to MMI and wrench on Busa's so I think I know a fair amount on this topic

But the cost associated would pale in comparison in just slappin on a Mazsport turbo kit on the 8 and calling it a day.
