rx8 or g35?

I bought the wifey a rx8 last year for christmas and our lease is up this coming december and Im trying to decide if I should return the x8 and then re-buy it for cheaper since the real value will be less than what I owe or if I should get a 2004-05 g35 instead. The car is not going to be hers anymore, she will be getting a small suv like a forrester or so.

The reason im not sure what to do is because the rx8 is black and gets scratched really easy. I was concidering getting a white one but those are hard to come by.
I always like the 350z and rx8 and when It came to get one I decided on the rx8 but I still want the 350z. Im having a kid soon so that idea is scrapped and now im thinking g35.

what are some pro's and con's please. I know the g35 interior looks a bit cheaper but its not bad looking. What else? Not trying to race or anything, just comute to work.
I would appreciate if we keep the personal biased opinions to minimum as it doesnt do me anygood.

Well the g35 is gonna have more power and better fuel economy and has more interior space
But you will lose the "Fun Factor" of the rx8 in your situation i would go with the g35

Im assuming your talking about a G35 coupe?

If you are thinking g35 coupe? I'd say get that. The g35 is a much better commuter car because it generally gets better mpg. It also is stereotyped as a more adult car, whether other forum members think so or not.

However, a change is nice. The only downside I can see is the g35 warranty being up soon if you are planning on an 04. Plus, you don't know the previous owner and what he did.

If you are talking a g35 sedan. Stick with the 8.

Try some Meguiar's ScratchX on your 8 after you wash it. It'll help get rid of some of the fine scratches. The bigger ones may require a different approach. The three Z cars I've owned all had electrical problems, so good choice steering clear of that. Can't say much for or against the G35, other than it's a good looking car; I haven't driven one.

thanks for the input so far. I would be going with the coupe in either red or white.

A change is good in my book and I know the gas mileage would be welcomed. RX8 is just such a nice car that it would be hard to let go of.

I guess time will tell. I have until december.
Main thing I want to hear about is problems with the g35. RX8 has been troubless and a reliable car is important.

You would be able to just return a car that you bought last Christmas? How are you going to pull that off?

Get a white g35 coupe, MT. My buddy has a blue one. It really is a fine car. Looks very sharp in white.

I did a couple of test drives in a G35 coupe, even took my son along in his carseat for one test drive. Much, much easier to use a car seat in the 8.

This is true. Mazda is magical.

However, if you are looking for a change and want something a little more everyday friendly and more grown up, go with the g35.

As for the car seat, that's something I have no experience with. But your wife will have an SUV as you said, so I don't see that as being too big of an issue...

Oh well, do what you want. Personally I'd get the g, for a new experience, better mileage, and I have a feeling safety is better on the g. It's a little bit bigger than the 8. Don't hold me to that, definitely something to look up if you will have a child in the car at times. Being a father means losing the dangerous stuff sometimes.

what does suck is that you see G35's everywhere you go. The rx8 is still a bit of a rare car. I think if I find a white m/t rx8 I will get it instead. Just so hard to find them for sale locally.

A Marine concerned about spit shinin' a few scratches? But then the modern Corps doesn't have to spit shine their suede-out boots.

The G35 Coupe (we won't even discuss sedan) is more practical given your current/upcoming situation..... but as you know, you'll miss your '8.

ps: A MazdaSpeed 6 is practical and a sleeper.

Cheaper interior on the Infinity?? Can't say I looked at one when I was test driving, but that is surprising.

Getting a used 8 seems riskier than a used G35, imo.

But you seem to be way ahead of yourself even considering this 10 months in advance, no?

take G35 coupe, trust me...there are a lot G35 coupe out there, but they always look nice and simple and luxury. my friend has g35 coupe, it feels good and luxury.
RX8 is unique when you are upgrading it and it looks the only car one the street. of course, people will love my car than my friend's car because i modified it, so it looks different from regular RX8. if i can go back, i would choose G35 coupe, and leave it and drive. it is fun

If you value driving thrills, the get another rx-8. If it's just puttering around, the g-coupe is nice. Looks good too. Interior can be better for an Infiniti product. Also consider a Legacy GT, MS6, CPO 3-coupe, etc. I disagree that the g-coupe is more practical than the rx-8 in terms of interior space. The demi doors make egress & ingress for more superior than any traditional 2-dr coupe.

well if i may. and im kinda in this situation myself i will be a new father in may and my 8 i love(obviously) and the drive is great, i sell insurance door 2 door so driving all day w/ gas mileage sucks *****. but i love my 8. on the other hand ive driven a g coupe. was very impressed i love the steering of it and of coarse the power has a very noticeable difference in comparison to the 8. i am (to myself) thinking about trading in my 8. i have 98k miles on it. and an extra 100k or 5 yr warranty on it. but still i loved the drive in the g35 and it does have a "grown man" feel to it! if i was you he g 3 5 would be my choice. which in fact originally was my first choice just couldnt finance that much yet!

haha, I spit shinned my boots many years before they brought the new ones around so I had my fare share. errrrrrr
I already wax it everytime I wash it to get the water spots out or else it looks like crap. These damn scratches are too deep to come out though.
Thought about the MS 6 when I bought the rx8 but the wifey didnt like it and I already have a toy car which is my WRX that has all the mods I can ever want. Its just so high on miles (about to go onto 100k) that it needs a rest.
As of right now the wife always drives th RX8 so I have not really fallen in love with it. Im going to start driving it more and then make a decision off of that.

I know im a little ahead of myself but I like to plan ahead and know what im getting myself into. Like for example, If I knew then what I know about the wrx and their transmissions I would have never got one. I had to replace it and spent 5k including labor.

And I dont like the MS3 either. Not a fan of FWD. Went through that phase already.
