Rx8 Electrical Issues

04 Mazda rx8 83k miles

Recently the weather has been rainy and my power steering has gone out a few times. So I cleaned them and filled them with dielectric grease and so far its been working fine. However now I have a very very strange issue.

Sometimes after a long drive (happens twice) **** hits the fan

My idle is terrible in fact when I get to a stop sign the whole car can even die. It sounds like the rotors are being misfired and when I drive I'm any gear it bucks. I can feel as if its misfiring and that it isnt running properly. I have to restart the car to drive 😐

This only happens after a very long drive btw.
If you could help me out that would be amazing

A quick fix is I disconnect the battery for awhile and its magically fixed or I let the car sit for a while and its okay again for awhile

Could be anything, get some data. OBD airflow, short term and long term fuel trims while the issue is occurring would help. Any check engine codes also.

Could be fuel pump. If it's older, it could be unable to supply nominal fuel pressure after a long drive. See if you can get a fuel pressure gauge.

MAF reading

So problem is still happening. Only happens after I drive for 15-20min after I warm the car up

The normal idle was 850 since this has started it can idle higher or lower

I can hear a brap sound of unburnt fuel on the exhaust of I slightly rev the engine when this idle issue is going on. Usually only happened at high rpms.

When idle issue is going on if I rev it'll go up them way down then up and down and so on until after a little it stabilizes

My idle @850rpms has a maf airflow reading of 4.9g/s . I live in Ann arbor Michigan are reading like this normal?

once I let the car sit the issue magically goes away until 20min later 😐

I'll do more in depth reading today evening.

Can you also get AFR and short term/long term fuel trim data? Those are the ones you really need.
