Rx8 broken into :(

woke up early this morning to get to work and glass was everywhere in my cabin.
Someone broke in the passenger window AND managed to do some damage to my B pillar. Looks like they dented the B pillar to get around the edge of the glass I'm guessing and break it somehow. My car alarm never went off as I park right next to my place.. do our cars not have window shock sensors? I assumed they did.

They broke in and stole my V1, it was pretty obvious what they were after. I had been taking it down at night but had gotten lazy.. and paid for it greatly. They didnt touch anything else, didnt even open the glove box(ipod) etc.

So I'm out of pocket about a thousand dollars(v1, deductable) and the pain in the ass that will be getting my B pillar repaired, glass replaced and re-tinted.

People just cant appriciate those of us who actually work to get our stuff.

That sucks! Did you call your insurance company and the police?

Herblenny 11-30-2007 09:43 AM

Sorry to hear that!

Stuff like that happened to me and now i have a security camera that records all the movements at my house.... especially watching the cars! I hate people who don't respect people's property.. There need to be MUCH tougher law and the media needs to keep reminding people..

w0rm 11-30-2007 09:44 AM

Yeah, the police came out and filed a report and suprisingly actually tried to pull prints- although I have a feeling that's more of a dog and pony show but a match on prints would be amazing. (they did pull some, but more than likely they will be mine or someone I know I bet)

Insurance of course refuses to cover the radar detector which is understandable.

How am I going to get all this glass up.. it is EVERYWHERE

laythor 11-30-2007 09:45 AM

damn w0rm, that sucks some serious ass. I had my last car broken into (tomtom and ipod grabbed) and it still stings. Car was parked in my driveway at the time.

Did you have the v1 mounted high on the windshield or low? I leave my RD in the car but my new house has a gate leading to the driveway.

If you have homeowners or renters insurance you might check with them if the v1 is covered since it was at your home.

Once again, sorry to hear some butt-munch ruined your morning.

edit: for the glass... a shop vac and lots of time. taking the seat out will help too.

Herblenny 11-30-2007 09:46 AM

I'm amazed they tried to pull prints.. Few years back, my car got broken in and I asked them to pull the prints and they refused! My car back then was black and I polished it day before and finger prints were everywhere!! i was PISSED they refused!

Car break in's in San Jose, CA are a joke. You file the police report online. So any crack head or wasteoid knows the chances of getting caught are somewhat less then zero.

Yikes! I guess I'm not moving to San Jose:)

Our area Police are pretty good.. They came to my house in 5 mins after some punk kid spray painted my wife's car during holloween night. My camera caught the scene but I deleted it that night thinking nothing happened to the car.. Next morning, I saw it... I was pissed!! But the cop did what they told me.. they increase patrolling on my street.

By the way, previous example I gave was in Cincinnati, OH...

Renesis07 11-30-2007 10:17 AM

wow, that scares me, I got about a grand in my trunk and I'm moving to california soon! Time to get a security system I guess.

laythor 11-30-2007 10:22 AM

My 8 now lives behind a security gate at my house parked under a motion activated light. Light goes off and I can see the car from our bedroom.

bruce_van 11-30-2007 10:36 AM

Worm, that sucks man. I hate it when sh** like that happens. People who break into cars just to steal should have their hands cut.

Always put everything away, leaving nothing in sight in your car. That's one thing you can do to lower your chances of getting targeted.

eclipsegsx 11-30-2007 11:41 AM

do cops come out? my buddy had this happen on his lexus is300 and no cops came out.

In this case, does an insurance adjuster come out to look at the car or do you take it in to some shop?

w0rm 11-30-2007 11:56 AM

Police showed up in about 5 minutes, cop *wanted* to dust it. Filed the report for me, and insurance let me drive it to get it checked out. about 1k worth of damage as they will have to repair the door frame(rather than replace the entire door).

Thankfully it's on the B pillar black part(which is a tape by the way) so there won't be any painting done. hopefully I can get it into the shop today and have it next tuesday.

I'll have to go have the new window re-tinted though which is a bummer to add to things.

i had the same thing happen to me a cuople months ago. Was in a club in downtown atlanta, come out, and my passenger window had been smashed. the b billar was bent like you describe. They took an ipod and nothing else. they left two macbook pro's and my girlfriends purse. it looks to me like they were just after something they could throw in the pocket and run to a pawn shop with.

the cop also dusted for prints in my case, and of course nothing ever came of it.

also, on the window tint. In my case, state farm DID pay to have my window retinted.

mike73737 11-30-2007 12:03 PM

Just curious Herblenny, but what good is the video? They're still going to break into your car right? Do you have a sign or something, or is the camera obvious?

chetrickerman 11-30-2007 12:13 PM

thats harsh. i dont need a security system. my car is right below me, and there is a shotgun not 20 feet away from my car.

dmc27 11-30-2007 12:17 PM

Weak shite, sorry w0rm.

The tint shouldn't be too bad, since most places don't charge much to redo a window for a previous client.

^^ so you know what they look like and have a chance of prosecuting (or smacking around)

Uncivilizedracer 11-30-2007 12:26 PM

that sucks has happened to me many times i guess be thankful they didnt take the whole car

Learjet_Pilot 11-30-2007 12:37 PM

That sucks, Bro. Sorry to hear that. If nothing else, maybe we should think more seriously about cutting off hands of thieves when we catch them. Seriously!

Hopefully to catch the bastard :)

Let me explain why I got it..

About 9-10 months ago, I was outside working on my car and my neighbor comes up to me and asked, "Did you hire a tow truck to pick up one of your cars?". I said to him, "NO!".

Apparently, day before someone was watching my house. My wife went to work on Sunday morning @ 5:30-6AM (She's an MD at a hospital, hence so early) w/my car and I left around 7-7:30 with a friend who picked me up in his truck. About 10-15 mins after leaving the house, an hold white Ford trucked pull into my drive way and 2 guys jumped out and started to look at my FD parked outside. My neighbor who works nightshift, just came home and saw these two guys trying to figure out how they are going to get my FD to tow it.. My neighbor who saw me leave thought it was strange and decided to go outside and watch these guys.. When the saw my neighbor, they got back in their truck and left.

I system I have will only record when movement is detected.. and takes very good resolution videos. Its also can snap pics and send it to me via email if I set it that way.
I've tested to see if I could get license tag from the distance and it does.. So, if anyone who trespasses I'll have it in record. Its for insurance purpose and also to deter future crime.. And yes, its very visible as the wide lens camera on my front window watching the driveway and entrance to my home.

SayNoToPistons 11-30-2007 02:34 PM

What "security camera" do you have? We live in NYC and we have a 2 car driveway in front of our house. It's right next to the sidewalk and of course being NYC, people actually walk on the sidewalks LOL. A few weeks ago I spotted a person in a heavy jacket with a bookbag look around our Infiniti which had a car cover on it. It was around 2AM and i was looking outside the front window. I grabbed the remote and pressed the panic button to set the alarm off and it did. I was standing at the front window so he obviously saw me with my face pressed against the window.

We plan on putting gates up between the driveway and the sidewalk but it's too much of a hassle to open and close the gates every time we take the car out. We have a car cover on so people won't key the back of the cars when they walk pass them, if they wanted to, they don't even have reach for the car since the driveway is short and the car sticks out right behind the sidewalk line.

Sorry, off topic!!

Wow, yeah I guess I would do the same thing if I had that story to tell. Or maybe just a .50 cal mounted on the house....

Cattywampus 11-30-2007 02:53 PM

Sorry to hear that Worm. Hopefully you can figure out a way to get the alarm to go off. My car is parked in a garage at night protected by 2 glocks, and AR-15 and one badass taser.

PerformRX-8 11-30-2007 03:31 PM

wow im sorry! hope everything works out..... I think i'm gonna start keeping my rottweiler in my car over night, yeah lets see if they still want to break into my car
