Rx8 backfires into exhaust
Rx8 backfires into exhaust
Hello everyone,
I had a earlier post regarding this. I had a issue the end of last summer where the carwould be very hard to start, then it would run terrible and backfires into the cat. It would not stay running. It got to the point where the fuel was ignighting in the cat and turned it red hot. Everybody said it was a clogged cat...fast forward to today. I split the cat away from the downpipe. New wires, coils, plugs, fuel, battery and the starter was upgraded right before I put it away.
Takes a while to start then runs very rough. Will not stay running and only hits about 3k then backfires. If I don't pump the pedal it won't stay running. No change by opening up the pipe in front of the catalytic.
Thoughts on what I need to look at? Any help would be great.

No dtc's show.
I don't have any codes that show for OBDII. I've been reading and there are can bus codes and I'm not sure if my reader picks those up.
Would those be the codes I'm looking for.
I've been doing a bunch of reading and could this be the essentric shaft position sensor? I just find it odd that I don't have any DTCs
I tried To take a video as well. Not sure if this gives any insight. The cat is disconnected so it's loud. I can't get it to run or over 3000 rpm

The OMP will give OBD codes not all readers will pick up. Combined with the 3000rpm limp mode, I would start there. Has the OMP been removed recently? Putting it back incorrectly can pead to what you're seeing. Otherwise you're looking for damaged wiring, connector, etc.
OMP has not been removed. I have not made any changes aside from cold air intake and a oil catch can. Those have been there a long time. Could that be full or vapor locked? Im just throwing things out there. Im going to see if I can get a reader specific to rotary engines. Otherwise are there any connectors I should start with? Would exhaust sensors have anything to cause this?
