RX8 and a baby?

ok, so I just found out my wife in pregnant. So to all you RX-8 owners out there who are parents of little ones, how does it work out haivng the RX8? I mean I know there is baby seat fasteners in the back, but how easy is it to get back there. How about getting stuff in the trunk? Should I be looking at getting somthing with four doors, or is it possible to keep the 8? My wife drives an SUV, but I am sure there will be times I will need to use my 8 to transport the little bugger. Any suggestions from any parents with little kids and an 8 would be much appriciated! Thanks!

Not a problem , baby seat fit good back there. By the way it is a four door. The bugger will be fine. Personally I have no problem with the trunk space , then again I don't carry much junk..... Yes keep your 8 ......

The only thing that wont fit are those ginormous stollers that have the car seat attach to it...

While the child is rear-facing, it can be a little tight, depending on the front seat passengers' height. But once the kid faces forward, it's very easy--and the child will probably love the car, too. My 18-month old always wants to ride in the RX-8, and he goes around saying "vrum, vrum" (his version of "zoom, zoom").

Do a search on baby seat or child seat and you will find several threads. I have transported my kids a few times a week since they were 9 months old. Space will be limited on the passenger side while the baby is rear-facing.

After that its cake until they start kicking the back of your chair.

+ 1

Baby is seated behind the driver so that the front passenger can look, entertain and care for it... so you get a free massaging seat.

I mean, they really can go on and on and ON kicking the seat for hours! :D

Fits very well with our Peg Perego infant seat. Skip the giant Gracos or Evenflo strollers and get a small McLaren. Those fit in the trunk too. Haven't tried our Pliko Prammette yet tho. We also have a Baby Bjorn to double-up. Then again our 8 only seen baby carrying duties twice as we have a family wagon.

I got the 8 because I needed a back seat for Das Kidlet. It worked great with the safety seat, and she loved having her own cupholder in the back.

We're expecting in Dec so we've been looking around for strollers and car seats also. Any car seat would fit in the 8, but I have a problem with finding the right stroller. In fact, I haven't found a stroller that's acceptable to me and fits in the trunk of an 8. The only stroller that does fit are the dinky skinny ones. Not sure if I want put my baby in one of those, especially with Calgary's winter conditions. What I'll probably end up doing is just using the other car more frequently and hand-carry the baby if I'm using the 8. Let me know if you find something that fits.

^^check into the chest-pack baby carriers. When they get old enough to hold their heads up themselves, you can transfer them to the back-pack style.

aww, guys always look so cute holding babies like that!!! lol.

i *think* that some of the larger ones will fit into the trunk of the 8, but i'm not certain. I do know that one of the 8 owners around here has a baby and has one of the big fluffy strollers, but idk how he fits it in.

Thanks everyone for all the info. My wife is all for keeping my 8, I was the one freaking out a bit. Glad to hear it won't be much of a problem, especially since we have an SUV as well. Now, another question is saftey, how safe is the 8 for a baby?

My kid's 15 now and the baby days are long gone, but never forgotten...

I have a now 4 and 1/2 yr old newphew who go into my car all the time.

Law in NYC required ppl to put the kids age of 7 and under into the *infant* seats, no exception. my bro (the father) got a ticket because of that one time he went to get milk (with the kid in the back seat)

It might be a bit tight but its ok, you have to pull your front seat all the way forward to fit in.

but if you're seriously thinking about comfort, I suggest you to get a regular 4 door car. much easier. Civic anyone ?

My baby is due somewhere near the end of this month through Nov 12.

Funny cause i was also the one freakin out about maybe needing another car...and my wife was the cool one about keeping the RX-8. She rocks. lol
Anyways, my 8 is Velocity Red and i purchased a matching Car seat/ Stroller

I'll prolly grab some pics soon....Only issue i think ill have is putting the stroller in the trunk. It might be too big...but ohwells, it wont be the primary vehicle for traving with the young one.

I purchased a Graco SafeSeat/Pierson stroller/carseat. Available at Target for all you parents in a Velocity Red :p

I appriciate all the info, however, I think I am going to sell the 8 and get a Mazdaspeed 6. I like those, and well, its time. Car is now for sale, and I am not all that sad about it. :..(

it's certainly tight and uncomfortable for anyone in the front with them rear facing. that is (by law) until they are 12 months old so it's a long time to have it that way if it is at all a regular thing to have to transport your little one. i have a 4 1/2 year old and 1 1/2 year old and they both love it and it's actually quite easy to get them in and out but i don't have to do it that often. also the seats now that they are both forward facing actually fit better in there than my wife's accord which is pretty funny.

the problem comes with rear facing seats and trunk space. those strollers sure are big nowadays and the small trunk mouth makes it quite the chore to get it in and out. if you are planning on using this often with them in it i think you probably did the right thing by going the way of the sedan.

I too can contest to this. I have a 5 week old and with the rear-facing car-seats it makes the passenger side kinda cramped but other than that it's not a problem.

btw all- that baby trend rear facer that henry is in was behind ME for the first 12 months. but then i am just 5'7". my wife is actually a little taller with longer legs so it fit better behind me than behind the passenger seat. i was just fine. my normal seat position. long live the rotor handle

Well, that's your call, but I can't see a single reason why you can't keep the car with the baby, unless you just *want* MS6 instead of RX8.

Well I now have 3 kids, and the wife has a Pathfinder. So the 8 is pretty much just me.

I have taken the baby several times. It is cramped with the rear facing car seat, there is no way it will fit behind me and allow me to drive. It does work on the other side but the seat has to be 3/4 of the way forward and straight up. Once you get the regular car seat it shuold be fine.

When I bought the car I had a 4 and 6 year old and the 8 was the perfect car for everyone.
