Rx8 0-60

i've read all the tips and jazz on faster 0-60. i think my main problem is the 1st to 2nd shift. anyone have a problem getting it in? i do. it makes me wait like a good half second, maybe whole second. right now i'm running high sevens consistently and would like to make that a 6. fastest was 7.19 :/

any ideas on my 1st to 2nd shift? normal? not normal?

thanks guys!

I have no problem getting a fast 1st to 2nd shift, or any other gear changes. The gear select as fast as I can pull the shift lever. It's virtually instantaneous.

One thought occurred to me concerning your slow shift complaint. Perhaps you're not pressing the clutch pedal firmly to the floor?

hmm, you really dont need to press the clutch pedal firmly to the floor, you can just find the spot that it lets the cluch out, pressing it to the floor takes longer,
i say 9 out off 10 peaple dont even cluch it to the floor

Are you sure your problem is with the 1st to 2nd shift...and not your launch?

positive. my launch isn't perfect, but i don't bog or smoke up a storm either. but i lose a lot of time shifting, it feels and sounds like the synchros need to line up or whatever. its a good second for me to shift.

high 7's are what AT's do 0-60

You should be consistently in the 6's.

Take it to a dealer, your syncros sound like they **** on ya

get a clutch assembly reinforcement kit thing. mazsport (if you can find it) or BHR.

immediately cleared up shifting issues.

Maybe your not using the stop watch correctly.... a second isn't a lot of time for human reaction

Sounds to me like a trip to the dealership is warranted. If this was happening sporadically on other gear shifts as well, I'd lean towards user error.

Does this only happen at high rpms or even at lower rpm shifts?

could be but i get a friend to do the timing each time, and we synchronize counting off, so i launch as he starts it.

well I had a similar problem powershifting from 1st to 2nd and it wouldnt happen with other gears, did this at the 1/4 mile, the way I found I could do it shift a little before hitting 9krpms and it would go in fine

I think I figured out your slow 0 to 60. It's a sequence problem:

1. rev to 7000 or so
2. feather in clutch
3. make 1st to 2nd shift as fast as possible
4. release parking brake
