RX-8 vs BMW 335i Coupe
Sorta like it wants to be a decent sized car... but screams that it is the cheap brother of the family.
Now the new Z4, now that is a good looking BMW.

I would love to see it in a true coupe configuration...maybe with the fast-back styling like the previous Z4. Something about the super short rear overhang, sloping hatch and rearward positioned cockpit with that loooong front end is really sexy.
No need or plans with the new power hard top.
Quaife makes an LSD for the 335i. If you have an early build 335i, it has a bolted crown gear & can be swapped out at reasonable cost.
If you have a later build 335i, the crown gear is welded on and you'll have to swap out the whole pumpkin, at much higher cost!
If I could have picked up a 135i 6MT with low miles for <$30k, then I would've taken that over the 335i. Having said that, I plan to keep the 335i for a LONG time as a freeway car, then eventually pick up another RX8 when I've got the extra cash...prolly a Shinka or R3.

The 335i does an amazing job of putting the power down without LSD. There have been reports (very few), that on even pavement the car can break half shafts due to the amount of traction.
LSD is limited to only the M series.

I guess I don't comprehend your point. It looks to me like they've maintained the classic Z4 tail/boot/overhang while making [internal] accomodation for the retractable hard top.
I like it far more than the original Z4.

I would like to see this newer body style as a REAL coupe...not a removable top with a big trunk to store it.
^ personally, i think the roadster is much sexier... the z4 is already very disproportional in it's body length- ie the front is really long, and the rear is really short. i also don't particularly care for the new indentations lines they put all over the hood and on the sides.
I like the fastbacks too. That was why I'd totally spring for that concept 240Z if it ever materialise. Z4/3M Coupe is certainly something that would replace my rx-8. However the Cayman S is very hot too. The M feels more like a muscle car while the Cayman is more balanced like the 8. Hmm...
For the majority of the 335i drivers, their driving limit will never exceed the current talent of the car let alone a rear LSD equipped one. It's cost savings....

This:
While I agree in the last body style the coupe was a better looking car than the 'vert, but with the new coupe/vert combo, I think they captured just as much of the look, and on a radically better looking car overall. And at least they fixed the messed up running board and funky gill fender that the first Z4 suffered from.
