I reported to AP police- they took info, and basically send goodby- I asked what they thought my chances of recovery where- they said "Don't know- call your insurance- (which I'm in the process of doing) they are reviewing the Exit tapes of the parking area to see if they can detremine- who drove it out- but told me not to get my hopes up, as most of the time- they are hooded!!

Hi Frank -
Very sorry for your situation - very frustrating and sad.
If they find it on tape I would be curious if they found a way to bypass the imobilizer key or if they towed/trailerd it out. If they drove it out there is either a security risk to all owners (a la scissors in a honda's ignition) or there is a security issue at your dealer with record keeping.
Good luck, hope they find it quickly and undamaged.

Sorry to hear that.
I would't think it's heading to a chop shop. How many parts on the 8 are interchangeable? Unless they were looking specifically for the powertrain. Sounds more like a joyride to me.
Either way, happy hunting for a new one.

I'm hoping to get it back . Cops say- be careful what you wish for- also- here's an interesting fact, which no one but my insurance agent deceided share with me-- there where 3 vehicles stolen from various LAX parking lots today. (Honda S2000, Mazda 6, and my 8)- according to my agent all three where between 7-9AM, What's up with security!! Because of the "sound" of this, my agent thinks there is virtually NO chance I'll see my 8 again- he said, perhaps in bits and pieces going down the road- on other cars. I can not belive how cavalier the cops, my agent-have been!!

I scares me how easy it would be for a dealership employee to make an immobilzer key for any car it has a VIN for.
They have a computer to look up "warranty" information. You plug in the VIN (which is at the base of everybody's windsheild there to see by the public on any car, or in their service records) and it gives everything. Your address, options on the vehicle and KEY CODE. For those of us that have been on this forum since the "IBFUBAR....pre order days" you'll know what i'm talking about. I'm absolutely not saying he would ever do that......just illustrating how easy it would be for someone less honest.

I started a "Stolen" thread a while back. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first report on the forum of an RX-8 stolen without the keys. I'm hoping this is a dealership type job....otherwise this theft has serious implications for all of us.

I belive it is up to you particular state. In any case....it would look very suspiciuos to an Officer if he/she were to notice it. It would look as if the car has already been stolen and you were hiding what would identify it as such.
