RX-8 Round 2?

Hey guys.

I was once an RX-8 owner, and loved my 2004 TiGray for 4.5 years over 70000 miles. Unfortunately 2 engines and 6 transmission jobs later it had to go. I was over the extended warranty mileage and knew I was gonna eat high repair costs over and over.

I traded it in towards a 2011 Mustang Brembo 5.0 and it was pretty fun... but recently sold the Ford and now I can't stop looking at 8's and dreaming about buying one and turboing it.

My question is... has anything changed in the last 2 years?
Has anyone found a solution to extend engine performance longevity past ~70k miles? If not, has the cost of a replacement engine become reasonable?
Are the S2's somewhat reliable?

Am I crazy for thinking about getting another RX-8?

Series II cars have come a long way towards becoming more reliable. If you have the itch, sometimes its best to scratch it. Find a person on the forum who is close to you and see if you can get a ride in a Series II or R3, I hear they are freaking sweet. Good Luck.

Yes, actually:
1. Check oil level every time you fill up - top it off if necessary.
2. Warm up engine before driving; don't rev above 3K until it's warm.
3. Buzz it! Rev over 5K often. Red line engine at least once per ride.
4. Use 5W-20 non-synthetic oil. Change it every 3 - 5K miles.
5. No engine mods.
6. Make sure the only thing that goes into your gas tank is gasoline.

If you don't follow all these tips, don't be surprised if your engine doesn't reach 100K with no major problems.

So as long as you do not do anything this guy said, you will be fine ^_^
I use 0w40 full synthetic,
Premix if you want (I do.)
I rev over 3k when its cold to a maximum of 4k,
Redline of course but do not over rev it.

I do not understand why you said "No engine mods" ???

Do not use synthetic, it is too light, i use 5w30 without any provblems; i go to around 4k when i shift, even when cold. Obviously redlining is a given. Make sure ur ignition and oil levels are kept up and you shouldnt have any problems.

Do not spread misinformation

Being synthetic or not has NOTHING to do with weight, that's what the numbers are for
