RX-8 Quesitons

I'm seriously looking into this car, and I have a couple of questions for whoever has acually driven one.

1. How's it handel? And I mean comaparitively to any other mazda's you may have driven.

2. How does the Transmission shift? Is it kind of stiff or does it just slide into gear?

3. Does the car have immediate get-up and go, or is there alittle lag?

4. As far as rotary's go, what kind of extra matinace is there?

5. How often is the oil change?

6. How often do you have to change the sparkplugs?

I have more but I'll ask those later. One thing I ask is don't tell me what I can get for the same amount of money, I've already looked at the Sti, the Evo, and the S2000. I'm looking at this car because it has the most potential, aside from the s2000 but I want the extra passenger room found in the rx-8.

Thank you for all your help

Test Drive

You can answer most of these questions by going to your local dealer and test drive the car.

The dealer I went to let me test drive the RX-8 for about 30 minutes.

As for the maintence.

Oil change, according to Manual, every 5000mi
Spark Plug change, according to manual, every 30,000mi (or was it 60,000 mi)

Maintanence? : whats that? For me it is now covered by Mazda for 4 years..Got to love that!
I only have had one other Mazda. a 929 I gave to my wife for mothers day years ago.. Had some cool ossilating A/C vents! But the car was a dog.. Transmission troubles. Finally got rid of it for an Acura Legend.
How does it handle? Really nice.. good overall handling.
I have the A/T -- perfect for my busy roads. You want to get a bit sporty--put it on tiptronic and have fun. smooth shifting .
W/ maint. on Rotaries - I suppose for people who are not used to checking the oil, it could be a little time consuming. For me, I have had to check the oil constantly on my cars (air driven). so no big deal.
But, go to any dealer. take it for a spin. see if it meets YOUR needs. I test drove the G-35 before I decided on the 8.. It was just more "me". Good luck.

I agree with the surfing suggestion -- no new threads for old topics, but as a welcome to the forum I can add some points:

1. It handles TRULY like it is on rales. My buddy drives a Boxster S and test drove mine on the windy mountain roads where I live -- HE SAID IT WAS BETTER AT SOME TURNS, AND COMPARABLE AT OTHERS. The bolstered leather seats really keep you snug on tight corners. It is so far my favorite part of the car. That and the fact that my 2yr can come cruise for chicks with me! I wanted a car the WHOLE family could enjoy -- not just 2 people at a time or only those over 12 who can safely sit up front.

2. The maint is normal.

3. I don't even notice the lag anymore, whatever speed you are going at, it craves to go faster. It only seems comfortable over 90 in sixth to me -- otherwise it whines for speed.

BAD POINTS:
238hp - test drive first (get over it or go elsewhere)

MPG - I am getting 18-19. No as good as I hoped. Make sure you can afford the car knowing the gas prices in the area.

CEL/Oil light: It has been in the shop for some well documented MINOR problems. A drag, but I got a Mazda 6 loaner and a quick fix. Expected with BRAND NEW MODELS (same prob with 350z, fx45, H2, Z3, Boxter, etc) As long as they fix it fast and for free, no worries.

A/C - it really does suck

Overall, I highly recommend the car
