there aren't any RX8's that come stock with puddle lights. you can install them in yours though.

i have them but don't have any good pics.

IIRC, it's the rest of the world that gets puddle light side-mirrors. Us North Americans don't get them, for some inane reason.

Shazbot is making puddle lights out of his basement/garage. Or, he was. I got mine a while ago, but I haven't looked at the thread since. They aren't that hard to install, but you have to take the door panel and mirror off. Puddle lights are not standard equipment anywhere. Our mirrors just have the holes for them.

I know they are standard in Europe. There's a guy from Sweden on the forum that keeps PMing me asking how to swap out the stock bulbs with LEDs. I couldn't get it through to him for the longest time that I didn't know because we don't have them here. Anyway, I'm sure they are standard in Europe and I think they may also be standard in Australia but not positive on that.

Shazbot's puddle lights thread.

A close up of my puddle lights before installation.

I really don't think they're option equipment anywhere in the world. If they were, we could order them OEM, instead of needing shazbot to make them for us. I'm always down for someone to prove me wrong though. Derwankel also used to make a puddle light kit, but they went away before I came here. As for changing the bulbs, you have to pull the mirror out of its housing to expose the puddle light housing, and then the bulb comes out of the housing with a quarter turn of the socket, just like the bulbs in the clear corners do.

The tool is not a 7mm socket. It's standard, not metric. I didn't have a 7mm socket on me that night so I went with a 5/16ths? I forget exactly but it was close enough to get the bolt out. The socket worked much better then the screwdriver I had on me. If you look REALLY close, you can see the screw that holds the corner in place on the ground to the right of the socket wrench.

Dagnabbit! I thought I have solved the "Socket7" riddle...that you had cleverly placed a 7mm socket into the pic sort of like a sneaky "signature". Teehee

Hah. Socket7 refers to the pin layout of the first computer processor I ever owned. A Pentium 100.

The Aussies get them standard.
I have puddle lights from Derwankle but after he got rid of his 8, Shazbot took up the cause.

Yes they come standard here down under. I got some led lights now and need instructions on how to replace the standard bulbs.

people notice the socket on the ground but not the red dyed side marker... tsk tsk. Of course that red dye soon turned to brown, but that's another story.

My JDM 2009 RX8 Type RS has puddle lights, but I'm looking to replace them with leds. These lights actually flash downward and gives lots of visibility in dark areas. I don't know why the US models don't have them.

The puddle lights were an addon I believe. There is a DIY on here on how to install your own for like $10. It is a pretty simple mod, just you have to know how to do wiring along with taking off your door panels.

All OEM side mirrors have the slot for the puddle light, you just have to put it in.

Hey all, noob here, I can confirm that here in Europe puddle lights are an option when buying. I got em on mine, I was actually browsing the forum to see if anyone knew how to keep them on longer.
