RX-8 paint job on an FC
RX-8 paint job on an FC
I'm planning on getting an FC. However the one I'm thinking of getting sort of has a ricey paint job. So, I was thinking of painting it with some Velocity Red paint. How much do you think this would cost to take it to the dealer and get it painted in Velocity Red?

Nobody cares about an FC 'round here. Go pound sand. You really need to go to nopistons.com or rx7club.com and leave us rx8 snobs out of your ancient-car problem. Rx8 paint aint gonna make your old-timer new again. Get the picture?
Hey, that was kinda fun!
I dunno, $1500 maybe? Of course, Earl Chives is cheaper. It really depends on how you want it done.
Anybody get a decent paint job lately? No damage beyond door dinks? Common, somebody cough-up some info!

Price is going to vary widely depending on a few things.
Are you painting the engine bay?.....door jambs?
Will you be stripping parts prior to taking the car to the shop or do you expect the paint shop to do it for you?
Will you be doing any other prep work yourself?
Keep in mind that a lot of money is usually spent in prep work, like stripping parts & paint, sanding, and filling.
Figure out EXACTLY what you want, and call around to get a few estimates. And above all else remember that you will get what you pay for.

Yeah, I took it to rx7club. [SARCASM]Would you like to see the enormous amount of replies I got there?[/SARCASM]
Edit: Well, ok... there's a decent amount of feedback there now...

Well, considering it's Saturday night , SNL is on & the partys are still kickin', it's amazing you're getting any technical feedback beyond "aint worth a toot" for now... hehe
That prep work sounds like a major drag...

It is. And depending on the color/paint/clear of this so-called "ricer" paint job, every single surface that's getting painted may need to be completely stripped. That takes lots of time and lots of money to do it right. A paint job is definitely one of those jobs where you can't cut corners.
Oh man. Poor FC....

Well, you're not gonna want to hear this, but going from a paint job like that to something like velocity red is gonna be a hell of a lot of work. Major color changes like that cost more.
Most of that paint will need to be stripped down to be painted, as any traces of the white basecoat (not to mention the graphics) will most likely show up on red. And I would REALLY recommend getting the door jambs and engine compartment painted as well, unless you want to see white every time you open a door or pop the hood.
To sum it up, if you decide to go for it be ready to spend a good sum of time and money on a quality paint job. However, you'll be able to take solace in the fact you saved a beautiful car from rice-ification. :D

Ah, the jpg was emailed to MRX rotary from the seller. It says "brat" on that one though.
The deal is going south; seller confesses now to smoke @ 7000rpm, stereo all stolen & stuff. With this paint job, poor FC is doomed to low-rentsville.
Anybody have a good lead on another FC in the southeast?

OMFG, whoever did that to any year or style rotary car deserves 20 lashes and to have to drive piston powered cars for the rest of his life. NO ROTARIES FOR YOU!!!
You are a good man, willing to do all that work to rescue a rotary. Kinda like adopting an abused dog. Why not go with the FD innocent white. It'll be cheaper as all the detail and prep work will be cut down upon.
