Is the RX-8 the "Nerd's Revenge"?
Its ok, Im am now a rising senior mechanical engineering student.......Ive come to terms with the fact that I am a geek. But when I buy my 8 next year, ill be a geek driving a sweet car!!
Geek is such an outdated word, and really was intended for carnival freaks.
With everyone adapting to the use of computers, it's more like savior & tech god sometimes.
I am referred to as Nick Burns around the office, but with my hair and the way I dress it does not indicate my field of work. You might however guess I work in the music industry.

What's really great about the 8 is that a laptop bag fits perfectly in the little recess in the trunk. I can put my laptop in there, then whip around any corner at dangerously high speeds. When I arrive at the office, it hasn't even moved.
There is a bit of revenge of the nerds going on here. I have been in software for ten years. Though I am only 33, and not rich by any stretch of the imagination, I was able to buy an 8, while only working 20 - 25 hours a week.
Being a geek allows me to slack off a lot, and drive my car

yeah i noticed that! my small carryon big enough for two laptops and a couple briefs (files not underwear) fits perfectly flat in the little luggage well. Its like this car was built for the young professional.
The Geekiest people I've ever met are amateur astronomers (Maybe ham radio operators beat astronomers in Geekiness, but I don't know any Ham operators.) I was stunned at how many members here have telescopes in their basements and garages... me included. Check out this thread in the Lounge on the Hubble (and the pic of Sea Ray's observatory which he posted... drool!):
Hubble casualty of Bush space plan
Yes, that's a motorized, sliding roof.
ZoomZoomH: I love Morgan Webb... I think most Geeks do.
Aratinga: Nice Slate article... thanks!

We looked at Comet Neat last night. It was ... neat!
I teach Computer Science to aspiring nerds at a university. I am to a "common nerd" what a drug dealer is to a "casual user". How embarassing.
The 8 really is a nerd car. Any non-nerd would have bought the 350Z. Nerds put handling and innovation over HP and image.
NERD POWER!

I think because it's an old cliche.
I don't think any "Revenge of the Nerds" types are buying, more of the technologically advanced segment of our society.
