RX-8 or Mach 1 Stang

hey evryone

its been almost 6 months since i ordered my rx-8

the dealers told me i would hav it 4 weeks ago and here i am......rx8less..

i am mad

its starting to look like its not gona come any time soon so i have started to look into other vehicles and i came across teh Ford Mustang Mach 1. It comes with leather, 460watt sound system, 305hp V8, 17'' rims and its way faster than the 8.
0-60 in 5.2
The rx-8 i order has absolutely nothing on it and its automatic.
0-60 in 9.5....yikes

if i wait for the rx-8 i'll be driving out with it for $28,000 and the ford dealers around here are offering mach1's for about $3,000 less.

what should i do....?

Although the mach 1 is a nice in between car to the cobra and gt, i would definitely opt for a cobra.

to be perfectly honest, your automatic RX8 WILL go faster than 9.5 seconds for 0-60. but if speed is ulitmately your sole priority (since it is the only factor you pointed out), and you can ONLY drive automatic, then go for the crappy Ford.

It's a shame that all these second-guessers back out because of stupid little numbers. There is a fun factor involved, regardless of 0-60. Its a damn shame.

of course there is a fun factor involved.. i would love to be driving an rx-8 right now instead of a mustang but im not gona keep taking crap from the dealers. Every week i go to inquire about my car they ask me to wait another 2 weeks and the cycle never ends.

plus it feels liek im gettin a lot more with the stang for a lot less and since its not in such high demand i can haggle more.

but there is still hope for the 8...

My work truck, a ford exploder, needed service today....so I walked around the lot, and looked at the expeditions, f-150's, mustangs and even the focus (oops)....In my opinion, most of the ford vehicles are the same as they were 12-15 years ago...boring.

They make many many thousands of Mustangs, and the interior is boring, the lines are boring, the raw power is boring (after a week) .....there is no style or newness to the mustang. Talk to the ladies....they don't like guys in mustangs...that's why they're always driving alone!

In an effort to keep this post to a low rant, I'll tell you to go get a mustang. Have fun.....Wave to me when you see me drive past.

I'm also waiting on my car, but I'm certain that my patience will be rewarded when I drive that sexy ride off the lot.

about waving while u fly past me.....are you sure about that?
Mach 1 vs RX-8????
i do believe the Mach 1 wins in acceleration and top speed..

however, you have a good point about the ladies... but im only 16 and this isnt gona be my car forever so the ladies can wait a little while...eventually, ill get a better car....im getting a car now to last me through high school and maybe part of college.

if that sounded snobby in any way, im sorry. im not an ungreatful rich kid. But i do know some!

another thing about the ladies...
i dont think tehy will mind much about whether u drive a stang or an rx-8...they might see ur ride and itll catch their eye but once they find out its a Mazda, theyll walk away.

another point...Mach 1's look waaaaay more intimidating on the road than the rx8. Drive a Mach 1 and an Rx-8 and u should see the difference in the amount of ricers that pull up next to you...
Mach 1 will destroy...

Thumbs down Re: RX-8 or Mach 1 Stang

After seeing two many mustang rip in half in a serious acceident and also seeing a new RX8 rear ended by a truck and no one was hurt. I will never concider a mustang, if your into safety handling and performance than the rx8 is a WINNER!!!

..who told you 0-60 in 9.5 seconds?

If you go for the mustang, i'd make sure you get a stick - but it certainly will be unreliable like alot of Fords.

Good luck with the decision,

Think about how long you will keep the car too and the depreciation value.

You might also want to take in originality. There are many, many, many Mustangs on the roads. It seems like every other car is a stang. If being unique is important to you then consider the 8 a little more. If it doesn't matter, then my guess would be that you will enjoy the Mustang more. Just another point I thought I would bring up and it is just my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt.

On a side note:

I have had really good reliability with my ford. 256,000 miles so far. My father also had good reliability with his Ranger. His lasted to around 200,000 before the transmission went.

Id get the mach1 Ive always loved those. Pretty awsome numbers too and i wouldnt get a auto 8 imho for twisties etc its just not the same fun.

At least with the Mach 1 you can go at like mach 1 lol 5.2 is very impressive. But keep in mind these are estimated times so dont be suprised if you are suprised when the real individually tested numbers come out because the almost always differ in some way.

But ya definately get the mach 1 sounds like a sound choice!

Two totally different cars. You would be trading the refinement, precision and build quality of the RX8 for the straight line performance of the Mach 1. Outside of stop light to stop light wars, you would be giving up the many advantages of the RX8 over the Mustang.

All that said, I'd find a new dealer.

Gotta few questions, though. You sound real young. I've never known a dealer to pass up a sure sale. I'm sure they could do a dealer trade to get one for you. Have you put a deposit down for an RX8? Do you qualify for financing? Do you have a signed "deal sheet" for an RX8 including a vin#?

Or, did you stop in and said, I want to order one, call me when it comes in?

I just can't imagine a dealer making you wait that long for an RX8, even with an automatic since they are hitting the dealers' lots now.

He stated he was 16 above. I don't know what the world is coming to when a 16 y/o can afford a mid 20+ thousand dollar car plus insurance. I couldn't even afford a $800 Subaru GL when I was that age. Took a while for me to save up for it. Im 20 now and I still can't afford an RX-8 unless I wanna live in the car. Man! Spread the wealth :D

Good luck to whatever you decide.

Only 16. Be happy with either one at that age. If I were 16, I'd go for the Mus...nope, I'd still get the 8. I would say at least get a car with fully independent suspension. Straight line acceleration is fun but can get old, handling in the corners is always much more fun.

That explains a lot. The dealer didn't order anything then. He must be "humoring" him abot waiting for his order.

Without cash or credit worthiness (neither of which a 16 year old has), there isn't a deal on the table...neither for an RX8 not a Mach 1.

Why not go to another dealer and get one that they have in stock?

yeah get a different RX. There has to be some at a dealer near you. Consider a stick.

I too llike stangs - had two. The Cobra with ind. suspension and hp is THE STANG! THe Mach is the great value gone soon stang. Mustangs are reliable for the most part.

The RX8 is a very different car. IT is NOT a muscle car and comparisons are difficult. Consider costs, vehicle, gas, insurance and then also the wow factor. If they were the same price, which would you buy? I find that equalizing FIRST then rebalancing the decision based on the various facts helps me with car choices.

you should probably read this car and driver article if you haven't already.

http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=1

It's RX-8 vs. G35 Sports Coupe vs. Mustang SVT Cobra.

Guess who wins? Hint: it's not the Mustang... or the G35...haha

I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR HELP ON THIS ISSUE
i found out the rates for the stang and teh rx8
the stang almost doubles it because it is a sport car, that is known to get stolen and known to get tickets.

you will be pleased to know that i am extremely close to getting a velocity red 6 spd rx8. Thanks to everyone who helped me come to teh decision.
