My daughter (18 Months) loves riding behind me in my 8.

Leather seats do not have a hard back (daughter loves to kick, no shoes for you!).

Also do not keep anything important in the rear center console, My 2 year old likes to open the lid and put on my gloves I keep in there.

The seat cushion is very easy to remove... Just lift up the front edge (firmly).
All newer cars have the Latch system like that now- it's mandatory . But I agree, they are especially easy to use in the 8. And just to add one more comment, I bought the 8 two years ago with the idea that I wouldn't have to give up my "fun" car when I had kids. Since I'm due in 5 weeks, I'll guess I'll be testing that sooner rather than later. My Graco Snugride fits just fine back there (facing backwards, even), though it does make the front passenger seat a little cramped. But we'll get over that.

Sedans like a 3 series are nice but they scream sedan. I look at the 8 and think sports car.

Bingo and if Mazada had some decent adversting on this fact (Thought it was just another cramped sportscar) I would have bought an RX-8 in July of 03 instead of my Murano (still love the Mo but it's no sports car)

The RX-8 is fine for kids! I have a 6 year old in a booster seat and a 9 year old. They don't mind riding in the RX at all. However, we take the mom mobile (Acura MDX) on any trip of length.

9 year old rides behind me because, as others have mentioned, the booster precludes the feet going under the seat. I am 6'4" and my daughter is one of the tallest kids in her 3rd grade class. She fits behind me with my seat all the way back, no problem. My wife is only 5'2", so no problem with the 6 year old in the booster seat behind her.
