I am having trouble w/ flooding, and not the typical flooding issue. This happens everytime I put a load on the engine. If I rev up the RPM's while going up a hill and then the next complete stop I have, the car will stall and it acts flooded. If I wait a couple of minutes the car will turn over and then I am good to go...BUT it doesn't stop there, if I turn off the car, it acts flooded again, only when I let it sit for an hour or so does it act normal again. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so what fixed it?

Sounds like your engine may be heading south, bring to to the dealer to get checked out. Did you have the engine recall done?

Bring it to a dealer and see what they say is wrong. Hopefully nothing too serious.

First question is it a manual or automatic? Second question, when was the last time all four plugs were replaced? Third question are there any light lit? Fourth how many miles on it and what year is it?

Assuming that plugs have been done recently, and no lights it could still be coils, but I would think that a compression test is probably in order.

If you haven't had the recent TSBs for engine power loss performed then that is probably something to get done. You fall right into the new TSB symptoms. Best of luck.

It is a 04 it just had it's plugs replaced and all the fluids flushed, and I made sure they did all the recall stuff. There are no lights lit up and the current mileage is only 34,700. The compression test is next, but the dealer wants $400 just to run the diags not including the cost for repair. Does anyone know anybody cheaper?

if your mileage is less then 60k then the engine is still covered under warrenty (unless you have voided it somehow).

have an 04 with 54k and the engine is being replaced now, under warrenty.

take it to a differant dealer. you shouldnt have to pay anything for them to run diagnotics on the engine

If that dealer is charging you $400 to find out what's wrong then I would take it to another dealer. Unless your engine is significantly modded, you should be covered under warranty and your dealer would know this.

I purchased mine used...so I don't think the warranty would transfer

I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't transfer. The warranty goes with the car, not with the original owner.

You got me curious, so I just called them. You are correct! It COULD cost me $400 if the diags proved to be something that ISN'T covered under warranty, BUT if it is something under warranty, then the $400 would be waved.

Are you thinking it is probably an engine issue?

At that Mileage, you could still be covered under a bumper to bumper warranty depending on the original registration date to the original owner of your '04. If it is under a bumper to bumper, anything wrong with it is covered under warranty. Have the dealer tell you whether the original bumper to bumper warranty is still valid, and if it is, then just take it to the dealer.

No matter what, your symptoms are serious enough that I would have the dealer diagnose the car no matter what.

Yes, it sounds like an engine issue, which even if you are out of the bumper to bumper warranty should still be covered under the extended powertrain warranty.

Don't ask them to do anything specific. Just tell them the problem and let them decide what to do, that is there job. They should in cure the diagnostics to fix a warranty issue.

Ok, well they are dropping a new engine in it. Turns out they can't find where the compression leak is. But Mazda wants to charge me $325 for the diags and cleaning of the old engine...the one they are replaceing, which I am laughing at and not paying.

Hell no, don't pay for that. They decided to do the diags and the cleaning to try to correct the problem which is still under warranty, therefore it should all be covered.

OK, so they put in the new motor and I got them to wave the $320 they wanted me to pay to clean and diagnose the old engine. But after I got it back it was vibrating and would make noises when I turned corners. They say that it's because the new motor is bigger than the old one and needs padding on the motor mounts. They want ME to pay for the motor mount padding which is $525. Does this make sense to any one else???

Well, I am glad that the motor and all diagnostics were properly covered under your warranty.

None of that sounds right. I do not believe that a rebuilt engine has a larger external dimension than the original engine although it might be possible. The thing is that IT DOESN'T MATTER! It is up to them to install the new engine correctly. They failed to do that. They must repair their mistake and make the engine run smoothly. You can owe NOTHING on them repairing their mistake. I also don't believe that "padding on the motor mounts" is a solution to this problem. New motor mounts, particularly if the engine does have a different external dimension would be the only proper solution.

The reason that they are trying to get you to pay $525 is because Mazda will not pay under a warranty claim for their installation mistake. They don't want to eat it, so they are hoping to trick you into paying it.

Tell them that either they can make the car run right the way that it was supposed to upon delivery to you, or you will take it up with Mazda North America.

OK, so here is what I have so far. I called Mazda North America and they have told me that Motor Mounts are a wear and tear item and are not covered under warranty. My question to them is, and they are investigating it is:

If you replace the motor, why wouldn't your replace the mounts at the same time? Don't the mounts and motor go hand in hand when you replace a motor?
I wouldn't replace a computer and make someone pay for a new keyboard and mouse...I would just give them all new items.

Dude, you didn't have a motor mount issue prior to the install of the new motor. The car should run like it did before, period. And $320.00 to clean the old engine? Are you serious?

Because I only had a Powertrain warranty they are telling me that they aren't covered. Complained to Mazda themselves and they made me pay as well. Closed my case and called it good. I too feel it was BS, but what are you going to do? It was either not pay for it and get a lean put on my car, or pay and call it good.

Well, it probably isn't worth fighting further, but I still think that this is the dealer's fault. Sorry for you, but hey you have a rebuilt engine and a great car to drive. Sorry that it didn't work out better for you.
