Keep the economy going! Trade your car in the same year you buy it. Yeah!!
Then work harder to make the payments and increase the nation's productivity index. Yeah!!

Lets also not forget that VW is one of the poorest rated companies for reliability as rated by Consumer reports. I know two people who have VW and they were falling apart after a few years. This observation is of course just two cars but I have head from other confirming the poor reliability. Ask around.

Are you stock? Because stock for stock from a 40 punch my buddy with a lowered GTI walks me every time.

It accelerate seems fast, but its just the torque made me feel fast, I was waiting for the tach to go up but it didnt, turbo kicked in around maybe 2900 rpm.

and as soon as I hit the first corner @ 60 mph ... omg , I almost lose control, maybe Im too used to 50/50 weight or maybe the stock rubber on that GTI sucks or maybe just because that was the *first corner* ... second time it was alright, kinda got used to it. but its handling is still not as sharp as Rx8 (not bad tho)

There was a GTI who tried to race me, couple months ago, tailgate my *** I didnt do anything ... then he just cut my car from my left, got me ****, and I speed up a bit to go after him, he tried to lose me cuz I know he was going full throttle, but just let him be and he cant get rid of me, finally he seems gave up then I just past him in 3rd gear. I looked at the window gave him a *face*, that dude was some 16 yr old who probably just got his license and car from his mommy.

GTI is more for wannabe racer

Rx8 is for people who knows how to drive.

I put my 0.02 down, its your call now.

Compared to what? Another friend of mine has all bolt ons and chipped.

Completely destroys my 8 in a straight line and gets better MPG while doing it.

The corners are another story.

There are some pretty good handling GTIs.

So I wouldnt say they just flat out suck.

Well I guess my 8 is a slow piece of garbage then.

Maybe I should check the plugs and coils.

My thoughts about the ride as compared to the RX8 are as follows:

The 337 had amazing torque with the APR tune. That made it fun as hell to drive. I averaged 85 MPH and 30 MPG for the trip. I kinda of miss the 337 now, since I turned the keys over to my daughter yesterday.

The throttle response on the RX8 cannot be beat. I missed that while driving the 337. I think I'll go FI next year on my 8, and I will be very happy.

Nah, the RX-8 and the GTI are pretty damn close and the GTI may be a little faster on the highway. Unless of course you're getting walked hard then you might want to get some things checked out.

Does this apply to Audi, Porsche, Lambo, and Bugatti as well since VW owns them all?

Both are good cars with varying strengths and weaknesses.

However, these kind of threads are just a useless enquiry, particularly in a forum devoted to only one of the cars in question.

We all buy the car that has the best combination of attributes for the individual use we want to make of it at the price we want to pay. Saying one is better than the other is a bit like saying because I like brunettes your blonde girl is a dog. You have to be happy with it, not the rest of us.

(waits for the first smartass to completely miss the point and crow that a Porsche is obviously 'better' than a Lada).

Just make your own mind up about what you want after test-driving and thinking carefully about what you want to use your car for.

hmmm altho i never owned an MKV (5th gen) GTI, i did own an (MKIV) GTI.......05 to be exact and moved onto to the RX-8.

Theyre both drivers cars IMO. Altho the RX-8 seems better balanced as an overall package.

Sometimes i feel like the GTI had too much power that it couldn't control. Meaning if you took a turn too hot, there a tendency to plow or rather understeer whereas the RX-8 takes it and holds it. There a higher threshold on the RX-8, call it RWD and 50/50......and lower center of gravity.....and the RX-8 feels confident more so than the GTI.

The GTI is a great cruiser car, gets excellent gas mileage (mid 20s MPG) along with good performance. Has excellent utility....but i can't help but think at the end of the day...its based on a GOLF/RABBIT platform, an economy car. It is quick dont get me wrong but its not quite as sporty, cause of the fact you do sit up higher.....

The RX-8 feels like ur n ysnc with the car, you feel like you are part of the car , whereas the GTI, feels like your just driving.

I also dont like VW service and VW electrical issues. i haven't had any electrical issues with the RX-8 so far in my one year ownership, i couldn't say the same with the 05 GTI i had brand new at the one year mark.....

VWs also offer better luxury accomodations than the RX-8 IMO, better interior materials......

But i dunno, i just think its a bit awkward to go from an RX-8 to an GTI....doesn't seem like a lateral move.....IMO. it seems like ur moving down a notch in terms of cars....FWD sporty car and RWD sports car.

Altho i will say if you like straight line speed (u can easily chip the car and it will have great increase in power) and good handling and need to haul a lot of stuff at times, the GTI is a great car......otherwise the RX-8 feels better stock for stock...

rx8.

although i have to say, the gti and its r32 counterpart look pretty hot.

but i'd never trade my 8 for one. just on looks alone. i mean come on.. its a hatch. for a sports car? unless you are counting utility into the equation the 8 wins hands down.

If you really want a quick, good handling, FWD sporty car with a side of convenience at around $20-25k, I'd be looking at the Mazdaspeed 3 as well. About the only thing I like better about the GTI would be the fantastic interior. It all depends what you value - the MS3 is quicker and a better handler but rather unrefined, and the GTI is a bit slower but kind of like a baby Audi.

RX8 v. MS3/GTI, I'd pick the 8. Like some folks have mentioned before, you feel like you're sitting ON the MS3/GTI and guiding it around. You feel like you're connected to the 8, it's definitely a better experience imo.
