You want daytime running lights? What, like a Volvo? Do people really need these, can't you just turn your parking lights on?

Do people really need them? Do people really need left postbit :D . We'll they're required by law in certain European coutries and Canada for safety reasons. I know Canadian RX-8s come with DRL.
When I turn on my headlights in the day time, I've gotta mess with the bloody dimmer to switch the dash back to daytime contrast .... then I gotta fool with the dimmer again at night to switch it back to night time contrast.

Auto dimming rearview mirror as an accessory for my base package 8. It is the only thing that they offered above base that I really wanted, and they offer it as an accessory for most of their cars.
I will HAPPILY pay to replace the crappy door checks that Mazda has put in the 8. Whoever engineered those, I assume, has committed sepuku by now, but if not, I will HAPPILY by him the sword.
Other than that, I'm very happy with the car. It's great. Has everything a guy could want.

How about windows and sunroof that automatically close after the car detects that you shut off the ignition and closed the doors? I think it'd be cool watch that from a distance!

I agree with the struts to hold the hood open and the under hood light.
I do not agree with automatic daytime running lights. Unless they can be turned off. I can decide when to turn my lights on, thanks. But, if they can be turned to a "manual" setting, then I'd have no problem with it.

I don't mean to T off on the above, I agree that it is a great idea, but is's the same problem with daytime running lights. They are on all the time because some jackass of an engineer thinks it's a good idea. Do you want to know why cars have daytime running lights? It's because in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where GM executives go to unwind, there is an incredible amount of Mirage Effect. There are long streches of straight road that you would love to pass on, but the oncoming traffic is concealed by an effect of the light, and turning on your headlights makes you much more visible to oncoming trafic. The thing is that there are only two places or so in North America where this is a problem, it just happens that one of them is right next to the corporate headquarters of a major manufacturer. Daytime running lights have no value outside of that area, and unfortunately making them defeatable, defeats the purpose of installing them. The point is that they have to be mandatory to the driver or else they don't work. I mean the headlights have always been there, the problem was people not putting them on. Personally, I have never understood why anyone would WANT to have them. If you feel that it is safer running around with your headlights on in the day, just flip 'em on. The option is always there for the driver. Why would any consumer demand to have them as a mandatory device. On some GM cars they are an extra set of lights, most noteably the CTS and Corvette, but on the Corvette, they are so small that they actually aren't useful for the purpose which they were intended. That's how you know something it is a bad idea because the engineers who are installing them have no idea what they are supposed to do. And as for the law in Canada, it was on non-exsistant science. The legislature was convinced on a whim because passing laws, which the government doesn't have to pay for, for safety, is an easy way to get a legislators name in the papers in a positive way. It doesn't mean that they are useful.
What I would like for options for a car are those things which have real engineering case behind them. Not just stuff that some study may or may not support as a safety feature. Well, that's just my opinion, which I am sure very few people would agree with.

What you really want is a button on the key fob to put the windows up and down without having to enter the car and turn on the ignition, which I think causes a bunch of electrical control problems in the car because then the accessories will be active or activatable by a computer at all times. Personally, I agree with you that it's a great idea, but it is pricey to implement.
Fair enough. I consider my item amended so that the key fob controls it.
