Thumbs up RX-8 Accessories…Soon…

There is a full line of really exciting accessories being finalized for the RX-8 including such things as a CD changer, aero parts, perimeter alarm system etc. With the pre-sale on the Internet, Mazda is about three months ahead of the normal accessory development calendar so the accessories were not ready to announce when they announced the pricing for the car in January. :D

Doesn't the car already come with a 6 disc changer? The European version does at least.... Damn that will be a real bummer if it doesn't.

No, the response I got back from the rx8orders inquiry desk was that both the standard and premium sound systems are single-disc units, and that the multi-disc head unit will be an option.

I wrote back suggesting that since we voluntary guineapigs are going to be giving their product a lot of exposure and assisting the initial impact of their radical new car, and since we've been expected to plonk down our hard-earned cash up front before we've even had a chance to touch it or see the available colors, they might care to do the right thing by us and toss in a couple of small upgrades on the pre-ordered cars. Like a 6-disc changer, for example.

Dunno if they'll bite, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Not too happy about the CD changer info, but everything eles is cool. By the way, Boo, have you been around lately? Haven't seen very much of you.

6 cd changer

Don't know whether we've been sold a patsy or whether Mazda Uk know what they're talking about but, look at the UK website

www.mazdarx8.co.uk

and you will see the prices and standard kit which includes 6 cd changer!! I don't know if it gives you any comfort but I suppose
we are paying +/- $36000 for ours in basic form!

Yours musically

I hope these are all dealer installed accessories and pre-orderers aren't getting screwed out of goodies. And what is this I read in a reply from mazdaonline about an in-dash 6cd changer accessory? If it isn't in there in the first place, how in the world are they going to stick it in later?

Looks like I'm going to be getting me some aero

Here's a new word for you: Modular. If these units are anything like the ones used in the current Miata, 6, etc (and it would make sense that Mazda would use common equipment wherever possible), then the single- and multi-disc head units are completely interchangeable - the only external differences are a Load button and 6 disc indicators in the display.

The extra gubbins to handle the multiple discs are all inside the head unit. So to upgrade, one simply pops out the single-disc unit and plops in the multi-disc. A five-minute job with the right tools.

they already gave this the thumbs down due to liability. You'll have to look elsewhere.

Slow down...

Hey! I just wanted to give you all a heads up without being specific.
The Bose system has a six-disc changer regardless of what the customer center tells you. Period!

Opps!! I goofed. Please see correction to this post following. Sorry for the mistake.

Neither does the one in my wife's '02 Miata, but it is. Not easily interchangable with standard DIN-format gear, but interchangeable within the Model range.

The faceplate isn't, but inside, the "drives" can be changed out like replacing the hard drive in most desktop computers.

Oops!!! Boowana's BIG GOOF!!!

Boowana has goofed BIG TIME!! My quote in the original post should have read:
“The standard Bose system does not have a six-disc changer. This can be requested from the dealer by the customer, but will be an additional charge.” I apologize for the error.

Is there another Bose system besides the "standard Bose system"?

Scratch that...I found this seat that I like WAYYYY better than the ones appearing in the concept car and the press kit (that one was a Britax Duo Isofix for UK only). I ordered two online:
