RX-8 acceleration

i feel the acceleration isn't fast enough out of corner, like start from abt 20mls to 50mls, this is the worst thing abt RX-8, but its handling, smooth, and high rev.

i think about 90% of the people probably agree with you, but hey its a great fun car man. Once you start modding it you're going to see improvment now i'm not saying krazy improvment but its good enough, if you want some power start looking into FI or a well built n/a

I think the accelaration is very good when coming out of a corner. You just have to keep the rpms up, above 6500 at least. Its a different story when the rpms are below 6k. Just like off the line, wehn you start off without dropping the clutch its slow as hell, but if you drop it from 6 or 7 k and keep it above 5 lets say the acceleration is very good. For tracks with many turns and decent straights this car is incredible. A freind of mine has a 350z for example. His car is quite a bit faster when considering only straigths, but when it comes to curves and accelerating out of curves he has trouble keeping up.

Then downshift when coming out of the corner.

What he said....actually going into the corner. By the way, are you trying to get flamed? Making your very first post on the forum a negative one? Oh, well.

I think its fine, how tight is the corner, how is the grip? is the DSC on or off.....if its on it could be detecting a little slip and limit the power.

If 20mph is the FASTEST you can go thru that corner, then you should be in 1st gear thru the corner and lay WOT just after the apex, as soon as you get straight again flip over to 2nd.

you need to work on your shifting if thats the case..... although forceful acceleration has never really been a strong point of this car

This is a driver issue not the car. In any car you must keep it in its power band through the corner inorder to accelerate out. Some cars have a power band at 4K rpm this car you need to keep it above 5K (6K reccomended) at a minimum. I have found driving this car (for performance) takes a bit more finesse in shifting.

If you want a good spirited drive through corners etc. Try to keep the rpms at 6K+

Hope this help.

This also brings to mind the fact that I like the car having little power 'out-of-the-hole' on a launch, whenever I watch the best motoring videos, the cars with little torque off the line always get the best launches and are first to the corner!

I have no problem putting my foot down mid-corner and bringing the back end around....if you dont go over that point and keep the car right on the limit, you will find there is more than enough speed to rocket you away and on to the next turn

Perfect! Also at that track day I was mentioned was an STi with unknown mods - it was LOUD and FAST however. Thing is...the guy wasn't 'that good' of a driver; he was using the power to compensate for his skill level. One could watch the lines he took - the lack of smoothness...just the way the car behaved. Of course, this was a Horsepower track, so he could put HUGE distances on cars in his group down the front straight - distances the curvy portion of the track didn't allow to be made up.

You need to learn how to drive in the powerband, more than enough acceleration

Depends on the corner obviously, but if it's possible to break loose the tires sideways, what's the point of more power? ...unless we're talking drifting... But for normal track use just shift down for more torque and put the power down or don't slow so much going in and carry more speed if your tires & setup allow thereby keeping the revs up for more torque and put the power down.

Either way is fun if you can do it and you won't have the sweaty palms & rosary beads the guys with way too much HP have from trying to modulate everything to keep it on the road and pointing foward!

IOW be happy with what you got!

You need to take a proformance driving Class

If you really want to check out how really fast an RX8 is out of a corner, take a performance driving class and remember to always keep the RPM no less that 6K when performance driving.

For a slow car as some seem to call it, the RX8 sure seems to be hard to beat in any class it runs in.

Could be the nuts behind the wheel are the problem out of the corners.

It's common knowledge the biggest and best modification you can do to any car, is adjust the nut behind the wheel.

He makes a valid point but it's not like this is news to anyone.

The only way you're going to get from 20 - 50 quickly is in first gear.

And unless you have something against your tranny, I don't think you'll be downshifting into first at 20mph.

Who wouldn't like a perfectly balanced powerband with tons of power across the board?

You're not getting that with this car though. Love it or hate it bitch.

this is not a negative thread, i just point out the fact on the downside of RX-8. i've been drivin a RX-8 more than 1 yr, i knoe this car is high rev car, keep the rpm at least 5-6k to get the most t/q to push the car fast. but anyone here would downshift 1th gear when ur speed at 20 everytime? (except u r racing wih someone), cuz u dont wanna ur tranny burn out earlier if everytime do this. besides this, i love this car.
