Rx-8 At

Hi All, I Am New At This Forum And Just Purchased A Used 04, At 8.
I Drove A Mt And It Was Amazing. Any Ideas The Difference Between, Mt And At?

I Am Form Panama And Traffic Here Is Impossible, At Is The Way To Go, With Tiptronic, Of Course.

Tks

Why do you feel the need to capitalize the beginning of every word? lol...

Anyways there is a big difference between your rx-8 and a manual.
The AT has a 4 port motor and the MT has a 6 port motor (for your year).
The MT redlines at 9000+ whereas the AT redlines at 7500 stock.
The MT 0-60 in at least 6, whereas yours will do 7.5-10 seconds

mine is at the mech, I bought it form a guy who lost interest on it, and had it on a warehouse for almost 2 yrs, it was hard to get it running, but I did, and I met this guy who Used to work at some dealer in Miami, and he is like THE Rotary guy here.

There is BIG power difference between the 6 speed and the 4 port auto...

And regarding traffic.. I never understood that excuse not to get a manual transmission car, especially a SPORTS car. I live and drive in one of the busiest cities in the world and my left foot loves me for it.

Its not mega fast, but mine isn't slow imo...
But that is opinion. I can take mine to 128 or so in 3rd gear with the governor. People tell me my car feels fast. I don't think it feels "fast", but certainly adequate.

The car can still shine in momentum, which is usually on the interstate or any convenient pace where you can utilize the still relatively high power band by down shifting at the right speeds.

Your powerband starts at 4500 rpm. Anyways, imo, the auto rx-8 4 port has enough power to still be fun, assuming it runs properly (their timings seem to vary a lot).

I have an AT and I would describe the car as "quick." Fast just isn't the right word for it.

You'll have more than enough go for normal stop-go, city driving. Highway driving is great. When the car is rolling you don't feel the lack of power nearly as bad as you would from, say a drag race. There have been times when I pulled out in traffic and just crossed my fingers that the car would go in time. It's a pig until 4500rpm when you launch from a start. I love my AT and understand your traffic troubles. I bought an AT for that very reason.

Since fast is subjective, this is my reference point:
I had a 99 Grand Prix GTP before this car. It had a heavily modified motor (cam, P&P, stock blower was modified, etc) and would have turned out high 12's if I took it to the track with a set of slicks. With street tires, I'd say it was a very low 13 sec car. Toss in a modified LS-1 Trans Am to the mix and that's what I would consider fast.

The 8 is quick enough and fun as hell

4 port AT is comparible to a Sentra SE-R or a Celica GTS is acceleration. Handling, on the other hand is comparible to an S2000, 350Z, TT, Boxter, etc. Enjoy the car, its FAST in the twisties. Youll love it. (And thats coming from a non-AT bashing MT owner )

Tks to all, I will post pics once my 8 is out of the "medic".lol!!!!!

I cant wait to give it a spin and try the "paddle shifters", I guess I am thrilled by this system, rather than changing gears on the gear stick.

Theyre pretty sweet lookin, just make sure you keep up with maintenance, check the oil after every other fill up, etc.
