for a bunch of ppl who claim they aren't disappointed with their car's performance there sure is a lot of active discussion about this topic here.

heh. I find it amusing that people would pick the SRT-4 in order to get respect among peers.

"peers" being the keyword :D

While they are good autox cars turbo + AWD is usually not the best combo for a tight twisty autox track. It can be a bitch to stay in boost. I would say if you want to mod and race in one of the street tire classes the STi and EVO are great choices, but if you want to race in a stock class you'll probably be more competitive with the RX-8 on some hoosiers.

Did you just (gasp) say the the 8 would be better then the wrx for stock autox???????? HELL JUST FROZE OVER!

And you know, I would have said the wrx or evo would be a better pick....IF you know what you are doing...

I don't let reality cloud my judgement like some people on car forums... The WRX is hampered by a few things in stock class, the tires and wheel are too small, it's tough (read impossible) to stay in the sweet spot on really tight corners, and a rear sway does wonders for the car, which is illegal in stock class.

I hope some day more people will learn, as others have written, that dollars have nothing to do with "bang" when it comes to cars. If that's what you want then you've answered your own question on weighting the importance of performance for the dollar. If you want the most bang for your buck you're probably better off in an American car...a Mustang SVT, Dodge Neon SRT-4 or car with a similar purpose in mind.

wrx(not he sti) and evo8 are the best cars in scca solo2. awd are known for quick turns . unlike solo1, solo2 doesn't really have long wide turns where rx-8 are good at. rx-8 are better if it was high speed track, but evo8 and wrx are good for low speed quick turns.

No they aren't... S2K, MR2, Miata, Z06 sure you could make an argument for, but the WRX and EVO, nope. Low speed quick turns mean you are out of boost and losing time, the WRX also tends to understeer in stock form which is a very bad thing on an autox course.

s2000(245hp), 14.2sec -32,000$
rx-8(238hp), 14.5sec -26,000$

i understand that there are many different aspects of the car that makes what the car stand out from other models.

after reading posts from the forum, the fastest 1/4 mile time i found was 14.5. Isn't that kind of slow?? very slow for a 30,000$ sports car??
i currently have celica gt-s 6speed that does 14.8 in 1/4 mile stock and that's only with 180 hp. only 22,000$
I hope your joking when you said "Your celica does 14.5 STOCK". infact, lets go to the drag strip together (I love drag) and if you run anywhere near 14.5 "STOCK" i'll give you my rx-8.

Next, lets talk about the cars you mentioned:
sti(300hp), 13sec -30,000$
actually scc got 12.7 as a best time, 13.3 average. But you also get 4 door car (with the center pillar), that looks like an economy car...Oh yes...it is one. Sure..the performance #'s are simply fantastic, but does it have the same equipment as the rx-8? Is the interior as nice? does it have all the extras? How does it FEEL to drive it?

the same can be said about the EVO

now, 350/S2000.
350z(287hp), 14 sec -26,000$
s2000(245hp), 14.2sec -32,000$
the 350Z's appeal (if it has any) is the torque the engine has. If you like a 2 seater and interior/build quality is not an issue, its probably a great car.

S2000 cures the quality issue the 350Z has and offers a convertiable. So lets look at 350Z VS S2000.

If you think 14.5 VS 14.0 makes any difference in everyday driving i'm laughing at you. Also, if you think you can run 14.0 in a S2000 or 14.5 in an Rx-8, Im laughing even harder. Sure, it can be done with a VERY good driver.

Do you even understand the concept of 1/4 mile? Its ALL about traction. In otherwords if you dont race from a stop, it makes no difference. If you do race from a stop, you dont want a S2000, 350Z or Rx-8.

Both the rx-8 and s2000 are great bargains, not because of the 1/4 mile speed but what they offer. Look at the cost of a 350Z vert vs a S2000 and you see the S2000's bargain...With the rx-8 you get a much smoother engine, more options, more practicality and as good or better refinement/quality (the s2000's refinement and quality are top notch also).

So it all depends where you want to spend your money. Do you want a backseat or a convertible?

Im gay and I understand these concepts. Are you for real comparing a Celica to an Rx-8? I just wasted 20 minutes on this thread.

right...

If his car is "stock" it can run high 15's with a good driver.

if its modded very heavily it can get 13.7 assuming there is an act of god and lingenfelter driving it.

I'm not making the news.. just reporting it I think it's on page 4.. says the mods are Apexi FC, clutch, exhaust and intake.

on page 1.

So I guess by page 4, he modded his car, and ran it to 13.7.

I hope he's atleast a little cute cause he doesn't impress me with his logic.

you guys talked alot......
yes celica does 14.8 in quarter mile as proven from SCC(2000model only, after 2000, they change the rpm redline down to 8.1k oppose to 8.45k). 2001+ model does about 15 flat.....
yes i admit that intake, exhaust, etc, won't get me down to anywhere near in 13 sec. But with the powerFC(standalone fuel management system), celica gets 15 hp to the wheels(dyno proven) before it hits the lift(celicas are known for crappy torque), therefore the 1st gear of celica actually becomes much more stronger and ofcourse better launch. It also makes the redline @ 8.7k rpm. this makes the lift little bit longer and give little over 20 hp to the wheels during the lift.
Not to mention i got intake, exhaust, clutch and tire(i forgot)
celica pulls about 157 hp power to the wheel stock, intake(cai) and exhaust(trd) would give about maybe 10 or more, and clutch give great take off and same for tires. And powerFC giveing more than 20 hp to the wheel
i'm looking it about 190 hp maybe less to the wheels. i think that's pretty a lot for celica. that's almost 250 hp to the crank.
i don't really care if you guys believe it or not, but i know my celica and you guys know your rx-8
this is fact. if you don't believe me, check the ecelica.com forum, they all are excited about new powerfc of how much it can do to celica.

Re: Re: rx-8 = slow??

first of all i never really compare celica to rx-8. i was just stating the 1/4 time. if i went to 35oz, evo8, or s2000 forum, they would probably say the same about their car. but i owned celica, i probably know little more than you do. i've been doing lot of research and tests. so don't laught just because you didn't know that stock celica does 14.8 in quarter mile.
