Rust (and peeling paint) in rear wheelwells

Hi,

I had just washed my car the other day and was admiring the clean and wholesome beauty of my car a few days ago, when I happened to notice what looked like a paint chip on the ground.

I looked closer and glanced in the rear wheelwell and noticed that where the fender curls into the wells (near the front of the wheelwell) the paint was peeling, so I looked even closer and noticed some nasty looking rust where the carpetting inside the well is bolted to the body (bare metal from the looks of it).

Now, I've only had my car for about 5 months now (2005 Black GT) so it's not what I'd consider normal, and I was wondering if anyone else had run into this.

I'm about to take it into the dealer to have it looked into... not pleased.

Thats not cool. I would think the dealer would need to fix that. If i remember right the warranty is lifetime for that.

Quick update, for posterity sake.

Mazda is going to fix the paint issue under warranty. I was seriously starting to sweat it. They finally contacted me a couple days ago and the car's going in this morning.

Glad it's being taken care of, it certainly should be covered under warranty. This kind of paint defect shouldn't be the norm, just curious as to when your car was built. Mazda had a fire at one of its factories, maybe they had some startup glitches when the the factory was restored and started building 8's again.

Also why does your avatar have a picture of a yellow 8 if your car is black?
