Talking Running through the gears

... sounds so great. No wonder why I have to fill the tank up so often. How amny of you find yourself saying that you are going to keep your revs down while you are paying for your gas, but when you go back out you fall in love with that rotary sound.

It whispers to me everytime I get in it. When its idling, it says rev me! When its moving, it says rev me! It even seems to say rev me when im not in it.

I think I am officially addicted to the sound. Now that I have driving manual for 6 months, I can appreciate shifting a lot more. :D I am so glad I got the MT. How do you other MT owners feel? I bet its even more addicting with a non stock exhaust!

Congrats on the MT - it is definitely the more fun way to go! I've been driving manuals for over 25 years - lots of fun (except in bumper-bumper traffic). You can add to your fun with some spirited braking with heel-and-toe downshifts, yahooooo!

I tried reading about heel-and-toe, but I don't really understand what it is or what it is used for. I have a concept of rev-matching now, and I can do it well, but I don't know any fancy stuff. I can double-clutch though! Not that there really is a reason to.

I love the MT. Never automatic AGAIN (unless I lose a leg or arm). It's awesome to know that at 6000rpms the renesis fine, whereas any other car would be ready to blowup. Unfortunately I'm still in the break in period so I got to keep it down!

Heel and Toe is mainly used when braking into the corner. Once you get on the brakes, you need to downshift to a low gear for the now slower speed your traveling. The idea is to have your rpms right in the powerband so you can get a good run out of the corner. If you dont heel/toe, then you will slow engine brake on the downshift, matching the revs and downshifting during braking means that you can modulate throttle at the apex if needed. "heel/toe" describes the motion of braking with you toe, and using your heel to depress the accelerator to match revs for th appropriate gear.

Thanks. I think that is the best explanation that I have read on this topic.

I need to practice that. Whenever I am coming around a corner I sometimes slip it into neutral, rev it, and slip it into the lower gear.

Nope- no reason at all. But it's still fun and sounds cool as hell coming to a stoplight doubleclutching your downshifts :D

I did that today coming off the freeway, coasted down off-ramp at 60 MPH, slipped it into neutral as I approached the light, braked slightly to 30-35, went through the light and made a left turn into the closest lane, reved it, slipped it into second.... vrrmmm off I went. It was really smooth. I was even proud. Normally I screw somethin up.

not just the renesis.. all rotories.. i take mine to about 6.5K rpm in 2 and 3rd gears some times just to see how fast i would be going if i took it that far.. im looking to take 4th gear that far tomorrow.. hopefully i get flames.. someone said they get flames when they redline in 4th.. of course im talkin about a 7.. not to sure about the 8's and their flames..

I like driving the 8.. but its too smooth for me.. i like to hear and feel the engine.. when i test drove the 8... i took it about 100mph in no time.. i was use to the 7 and reving up high in low gears.. it was fun... any way.. you gotta love redlining it once a day.. :-P

I love how smooth it is. I wouldnt change the exhaust for the world. It sounds so nice. Fastest I have gone was 127mph. My dad lives in the middle of no where so me and my cousins can drive fast together and race. My brother is going to buy a pontiac gto this week so he plans on beating me in a race.

Haha, I was just thinking about that today....it seems like if I drive like my gramma I can average 20 mpg....but it's too hard. It's like turning down sex...

I have yet to drive my car ANYWHERE without red lining in one gear or another! I have gotten now to where I can get the max out of every gear (through 4th) without hitting the max redline and having the engine retard. It is an awesome sensation.

There is a reason to heel and toe

It allows you to select a lower gear without upsetting the fore/aft loading and thus positioning of the vehicle as you approach and/or enter a curve. I usually brake as I approach the curve, and then heel and toe just as I enter the turn so that the engaging of the lower gear with it's throttle blip is immediately following by an application of power as I move thru the apex. This happens very smoothly and is quite enjoyable. Heel and toeing is also a valuable skill to have when you approach a corner too fast. You can brake really hard but still have the gear you need and the revs you need to exit the turn, all without spinning the car or otherwise sacrificing a good line thru the corner.

Yeah bro', I think it's the same with everyone. The car will change you. It starts upon approach with key in hand to unlock the door. Pulse rate increases and stays up until the ride is over and you're walking away pushing the lock button on the remote. I tend to drive faster in this car than any other car or motercycle I ever owned. Not so much around town anymore, , but on the highway. It's like that Sammy Hagar tune, "I Can't Drive 55", or 65 for that matter!
