Aw, I was expecting a spanking on that one ...

Call it a momentary lapse of judgement - but was on a two lane road, 3 miles at least of clear, visible road ahead, and it was this mullet-headed and goateed *** in the right lane who was going 63 mph in his mud-bathed Silverado - and as soon as I pulled out to pass, he floored it. I should have dropped back in behind him again, but I didin't want to eat dirt and gravel from his monster truck tires, so I stayed in the gas, pulled parallel to him at about 85 mph and accelerated on past - I probably could have backed off at 100 mph (which honestly in this car scares me no more than 80 mph in my wife's Honda Odyssey - another great high-speed cruiser car), but I wanted to put some distance between us in case he didn't back off ...

So, yes 115 with my three children in the car. Stupid? In retrospect, yes. Heat of the moment? Totally.

-------

That said, I really enjoyed the trip home - set the cruise at 82 on the interstate, enjoyed being stared at and occasionally "pointing and squirting" around dopes who don't understand that the left lane is for passing not cruising. Covered 317 miles in 4 hours and 20 minutes, including a 15 minute stop.

Stew

Ok, I admit to not reading all the posts. But lemme just say that with my 8 in the shop for one month on Sat, I'm really jealous. What I wouldn't give to have to go to the grocery store in my 8....

Why is 115 somehow dangerous? Geesh....I've set the CRUISE CONTROL at 115 on roads - with three other ppl in the vehicle, laying down on the seats (was a van), sleeping.

Frankly, I believe 80mph+ for an hour or more is 'more' dangerous than 30 seconds at 115mph.

You did nothing wrong, Steve. You were there, only you knew the context in which the speed was to be achieved.

I'll never understand ppl's fear of speed. Speed doesn't kill...Speeding in the wrong context leads to injury.

And you know what is MORE dangerous? The idiots who set the damn cruise control at 67 mph on the interstate, where the prevailing traffic speed is closer to 80 mph, and then ride in the left lane. Now that is dangerous.

I had to point and squirt past a number of these idiots on their right side, and I felt FAR more hung out doing that than I did blowing past that truck at triple-digit speed. If I passed that truck at 115 when he was going 60, that would have been quite different.

Thanks DMP.

No problem, Stew - I'm just calling it as I see it...You are dead-on about the left-lane campers. Washington is likely the worst state in the union for that. We have self-righteous drivers here like no other place.

"As long as I'm going the speed limit, I can be in whichever lane I want!" is their mantra - nevermind doing so is a violation of state law. Of course, our StatePatrol only focuses on the 'Dangerous, Glamorous' Laws...I know a guy on a bike who was pulled over for SIXTY-TWO mph in a 60 zone. He got a stern lecture about 'the dangers of speeding' and how 'even two mph can increase stopping distance!' - never mind the cop who pulled him over was camping in the passing lane (violation of law, remember) at less-than the speed limit...

blah..you went and got me preaching now! hah

Anywho...great story...
