Right headlight slightly higher than the left?

Little thing I know, but i have HIDs where the left headlamp is slightly set lower than the right. Anyone know the reason for this? I have the grand touring package so they are supposedly auto-leveling.

That is normal and it will step from left to right (and slightly pointing to the right), it's by design. Mainly so you you don't blind opposing drivers with you HID's when you pass each other.

Gotcha, thought it might be that, just wanted to make sure. Asked the service guy and he looked at me like I was nuts.

I am glad someone posted this, as I thought my headlights were slightly out of alignment.

I was told that it's because the desingers emulated a pattern of nature- where one side always hangs a bit lower than the other...

I changed my bulbs too 10000K and raised the crap outta them...

Most of the time on coming drivers aren't even American citizens in Houston. So I really don't care...

Edit: I'm joking??

If you have HID's you should drive behind another car that you can see your headlights on & tell me if the drivers side flashes yellow & then white again.

Mine does & the dealer says it NORMAL. Not on any other cars that have HID's!...

the reason for the starggered look (left side being slightly lower) is so that you don't blind oncoming drives.

Mine do this, too. It's natural. And yes, the left one suppose to hang lower.

its actually so that you can see the right side better. so you can spot pedestrians easier, otherwise they would simply lower both lights.

It's actually in the Shop manual. You can usually find a copy/link of it somewhere on the forums or you can pick up a paper copy from any Mazda dealer.

do your lights hang low, do they wobble, do they flow?

My passenger side looks less bright than the right side, I assume because of this, and it annoyes me every time I pull up behind a car and can see it. I will adjust it and hopefully both beams will look equally bright.

FYI, passenger side is the right side of the car. Maybe you have different type of bulbs that makes it look different.
