Respect for other cars

I got up early yesterday to give my baby the full wash treatment. I am out washing the car and a guy in a brand new 350Z pulls up, rolls down his window, and says "Man, that thing is nice!". To which I replied "Thank you, so is your car". None of the stupid "You car has no low end torque" and "Your car is a tank with poor handiling"stuff. We all choose our cars for different reasons...I hate when people get all high school clicky with their cars..... my two cents.

That's really cool. I've had other sports car owners do that to me also. It's pretty cool, and I do the same. Sometimes my friends think I"m goofy because I"ll go out of my way to go see another car. I like so many of them! If only I could afford 22 car garage full of cars...

Yea I get that alot. Its a really good feeling to recieve car praise from someone else with a great car. So far ive had an evo owner, sti owner, rx7 owner, ITR owner, and a porsche owner all tell me how much they liked my car. The best kind of people are the ones that really appreciate other cars for what they are, not just a quarter mile time slip. Thats what I refer to as an enthusiast.
By the way, nice car lol.

It's always a fun feeling to be filling up at the gas station and see a car owner walk up to you and compliment your car.

If I see a nice looking G35, I am usually quick to pull up next to them and give them a thumbs up or something...how come they always think that means I want to race??

Honestly i think that 350z owners have huge ego's. I love the z, i think its a great car, but from my personal experience and from what i've seen it's mainly them. On about 3 different occaisions where I was giving props to a z owner they always shrugged me off like I was some fanboi (F#CKERS). I even joined the 350z forum and man, do they talk head!! No respect. I've gotten more props from STI owners that anyone else.

Me too...haters suck.

I like cars in general and sports cars in particular. I often complain about people who are so blind they can't see the good in any other car other than the one they are driving. Personally, I respect pretty much all sports cars with a slight disdain for FWD I must admit but regardless I don't hate.

You know what, the SRT-4 was not the best quality...or looks, but by golly it was a dang fast FWD little car and I respect Dodge for building such a car. For it's price...you get a good bang for the buck.

STI, EVO, 350Z, S2000, Mustang, NSX, etc etc etc....they all have their good points, better points, great points, and bad points. Regardless, I'm not going to rag on anyone's car because honestly they spent their hard earned money on it and frankly what is the purpose of ragging on someone's car?

I learned long ago playing sports all my life that the “talkers”…only set themselves up to be humbled and humiliated later. Words don’t point points on a scoreboard nor win races.

High School ended for me 10 years ago...yet, a lot of people live the rest of their lives stuck in the HS mentality.

Shame really...they are missing out on enjoying a lot of great cars.

High school? What's that. So long ago I don't remember it. I enjoy the highschool mentallity here. Makes me feel young again. Nice thing about the 8 is it fits any age group and education level. it's a car anyone can enjoy. That's why we have such a variety of drivers visiting this forum.

I have respect for lots of cars. My issue is with alot of car owners. Specifically those who have something to prove. Alot of those people are streetracers and this doesn't necessarily mean those with slow cars. Someone that has a 900 hp car that likes to waste people on the street will get no respect from me. The person who is too mature and responsible to race on the street can never be beat! I don't care what car you drive, how much power it has, how much you paid for it, how much you spent on it, how fast it is, etc. If you street race it for bragging rights or you have some punk holier than thou attitude about it, you'll get no respect from me. There people with these cars that do it solely because they enjoy it, don't care what you have, and are just happy with what they have, regardless of it's condition are the people I fully respect and their cars I respect. I don't care how much or how little power it makes. If it's taken care of and the owner is a good and decent human being, why shouldn't they get compliments for their ride?

I have respect for all cars because they can kill me. Slow or fast makes no difference. A car doing 10 under the limit in the fast lane is just as dangerous as a car doing 30mph over the speed limit. All cars should be respected for their size and power. You learn that on a motorcycle real quick.

Very true. I really need to work on remembering that when I get off the motorcycle and get in the car. Problem is, after you ride a motorcycle, being in a car just feels so safe...

Yea I'm in high school, all the civics with spoilers higher then buildings always try to race me. I never do it though, But for the nice cars like the two g35's and Mercedes sl500 I give respect. I actually thrive off when people talk about my car negitively.

More like appreciative. When I get back in my car, I have such respect for other riders, truckers, etc. It's a jungle out there!

Whilst a light hearted laugh at somebodies machine is fine, disrespecting them is plain bad manners...

The fact is, you can have as much fun in a small VW as you can in a £75,000 supercar.

Most of these high performance cars upper reaches is not useable on a day to day basis anyway, and small cars usually handle like lasers too!

Now for the other reason...

So there you are in your brand new RX8, or whatever, and you laugh at the poor sap in his Nissan 300ZX or whatever, for driving a four-wheeled Chest wig.

The guy, whose pride and joy you just dissed, is upset for no reason other than he spent less on a car than you.

As the nice man said 'BAD Karma...'

Now lets look at the guy who is genuinely wealthy, unlike you, and has a garage full of exoticar, and unluckily for you on this day, he takes his mcLaren for a little drive to the shops, and who does he see?

You, in your little Chimps rice-burner.....

...feeling all proud....

...his housekeeper has one just the same, but SHE got Sat Nav...

...His teenage daughter HAD one, but got bored and got a Boxster S instead...

Still feeling like taking the **** out of that ZX now, or just feeling lucky you are in the RX...

Look on the bright side, the guy in the McLaren has a small dick

I give praise also to other cars. Especially at the gas station when people approach you about your car and ask what it is. It's been three years since its release, and people still ask.

The ONLY ones that I don't praise are the ones with white plastic body kits unprofessionally fitted showing gaps. What's that all about?

Having respect for something because it can kill you is a different kind of respect than you give a car for it's looks, mods, power, owner, etc. I'll respect a car, plane, snake, and a charging bull in the same manner if that's what we're talking about. Show me a kid who puts all of his hard earned minimum wage money into his used Civic to make it the way he wants and then give him a good friendly mature attitude about it and you'll find someone who has infintesimal more respect from me than the person who has a 900 hp built WRX who likes to go beat people on the streets because he has something to prove to the world. Sadly these people will never prove it! A simple attitude adjustment would change that. If the 900 hp guy didn't care about all that and didn't have a superiority complex, I'd fully respect him.

Respect something for what it is but praise something for what it is used for.

The other day I just passed a nice, clean and shiney old Mustang (sorry American guys cannot tell the year). But I gave the guy two thumbs up... And he appreciated... Very much so.

Wouldn't it be easier and nicer for all, if we all showed what we like and give the proper respect?

Next time somebody does it to you, return the favour to someone who drives a car YOU like...

I respect hot girls that drive nice cars or try build a nice car, and the best part about it is that they know what they're talking about when it comes to cars so it's always an intersting conversation. Now does that count?
