there are two black rods sticking out to either side of the center display. one switches between trip odometers and resets them the other switches between km and miles

Yep, you just have to press the left-hand button for a couple of seconds.

why would u want to change it to km?

Perhaps he plans on driving into Canada or Mexico, or perhaps he just wants to use the same units as everyone else in the world. :p

Well isn't it about time the USA stepped out of the 19th century & took up the metric system like the rest of the world.

Judging by the amount of manufacturers doing KM+MI on the speedo, you can tell that they are trying to warm the public up to updating too.
