Replaced my clutch all by myself yesterday
Its been about a year since i posted,
I've been arround but mainly just browsing. My clutch had died almost 6 months ago but economy + personal injuries had gotten in the way of me fixing it. finally 2 months ago I went to the dealer and asked for a quote on clutch replacement...
$3,000.00
What, you have to be kidding me!
so I ask how much for the parts alone?
$700.00
NO WAY
I go to auto zone, they dont have them but they can order them...
$900.00 plus tax and shipping.
F that!
Ebay; 5 minutes searching...
$299.00 + $40.00 shipping, Now that is more like it...
the parts arrived in about a week.
I had never replaced a clutch before but whatever, ave done more complicated things. I downloaded the shop manual called one of my friends who actually knows what he is doing and we go to town...
For the guy in this forum who said he replaces it in one hour...
we did it in 23 minutes AND we had a beer brake n the middle, NOT.
We made fun of you for all the 23 hours we spent under the car fighting with hand tools against bolts that where obviously impact wrenched in there like they where never to be removed.
I cant say it was difficult, but it was definitively WORK. I would do it again, just not for the next 5 years PLEASE.
I took pictures so I'll post a DIY soon enough.
If anyone is thinking of doing this, I would say go for it, but even if you know what you are doing you should not try it alone (we got pinned under the transmission and there where 2 of us, if it was me alone i think i would have dropped it)
for anyone wondering the parts I got was the stage 2 kit from gripforce clutches they where great in service and delivery and the clutch actually feels better than OEM.

Good work!
What made it that hard? The only clutch I've replaced was in a '53 Chevy, and it was pretty much a one man job. Put the car up on stands, disconnect the driveshaft, remove the transmission, etc. No crossmember in the way on that car, and the transmission was light enough to handle without a jack.
Definitely looking forward to your pictures and story.

The transmission is not extremley heavy, but not light enough to handle without a jack while lying on your back.
It was not hard just time consumeing because of the nut and bolt that ALWAYS gets stripped and seems imposible to get out until you go out and buy some tool that you are only going to use for this one proyect.
You take out 3 chasis braces, the starter, the cat and mid-pipe the the heat shield, the powertrain brace (this is a first for me, I had never seen a powertrain brace on a car before) then the drive shaft. finally you can take the transmission out. Oh btw dont forget to disasemble the shift lever on top.
Wait for my DIY and you'll see.
