I hate to ask, but in all of their testing, did they ever actually inspect the fuel injectors to see if all of them were working properly on that front Rotor? Ignition system, fuel injectors, and oil injectors are the only factors that stay the same when a motor is swapped.

Faulty fuel injector really is the only thing I can think of that would lead to failure in that short of time after a rebuild has been installed.

Service Manager is dumping on the OP at this point, because the OP is 20 years old, and isn't going to put up a fight. Personally, I would make sure the Service Manager gets an earful of how poor his diagnostic skills have been, that they've had to replace the motor 3 times, and still don't have a viable reason as to why any of them have failed.

I fully expect the engine to kick the bucket on the way home.
The engine oil in the gas tank was to try and let it get further away from the dealership so that some other Mazda shop gets to pick up the car.

BC.

Oh boy that's encouraging xD

Haha nope, I have mentioned repeatedly the fuel injectors but they have blown me off each time saying that it would be "obvious" if one was malfunctioning.

9krpmrx8 06-04-2015 04:32 PM

Yeah, I mean if it were a fuel injector it likely would have run like shit and certainly there would be a check engine light, etc. And even with a faulty fuel injector on a NA Renesis, I don't see it causing a mechanical failure in the engine in 300KM's. But without tearing the engine down I can't understand how they can properly diagnose it anyway.

But also 2 FUBAR Mazda remans back to back is very rare. But they are hand built so it is totally possible.

The problem is that his original engine had the exact same failure as the remans, so I don't think it's the reman, just a bad mechanic not actually testing the car properly.

He made it quite a long time on the stock engine, but then we have had 3 failures in exactly the same way.

Running lean will kill an engine quick.
An intermittent connection at the secondary injectors might go unnoticed.

I do hope you make it all the way home without issue.

Can I monitor whether it's running lean with my OBD2?

Ugh i'm worried now, I really don't want to be hopping back on a plane to Calgary when another engine fails. Nor do I want to be stuck on the Roger's Pass with no cell service...

dannobre 06-04-2015 06:23 PM

At least if it makes it to Vancouver you get a new dealer to deal with ;)

Shumster 06-04-2015 06:36 PM

They better hope I make it off the Island otherwise I'm going postal :)

G_ man 06-06-2015 04:34 PM

How's the car and the trip home going.

Shumster 06-07-2015 12:10 AM

Hey GMan thanks for asking. Picked up the car today. I had to pick up a battery and bring it, they made me install it in the lot lol.

Anyway i've put 50KMs on it so far and it seems to be doing well. I've been monitoring AFR religously. Everything looks good so far. Planning on heading back on Monday now. Will let you guys no if I make it!

Update: Sorry I wrote 300 but I meant 50

If you have any more problems with the car when/if you make it back to Calgary, try to avoid Sunridge Mazda. I had a bad experience with them when my engine went, they all but refused point blank to attempt to honor the warranty because I hadn't had the oil changed at a dealership (had all receipts for oil and filters since I had owned the car, and done it myself) and insisted that I put 6500$ down so they could order a reman. When I picked the car up with a trailer to take it to another dealership their (only) rotary tech came out and talked with me, they hadn't even had him look at it once since its been in.

Took it up to Sundance Mazda in Edmonton after, they had me a new engine installed on warranty in 10 days.

Also, I'll be down in Calgary today, if you need a hand with anything when you're getting close just PM me, I'll keep an eye on my inbox.

Shumster 06-08-2015 11:40 AM

I really appreciate the heads up and the offer to help! Thanks.

So far so good though, i'm on the ferry to Vancouver right now. About 250 KMs so far and engine still seems strong. Feeling optimistic about this one! Gonna try and make it back to Calgary today! Will update.

Thanks again everyone for the support!

Dominarian 06-08-2015 11:42 AM

Good luck man! Fingers crossed xx

what if the bad injector was not in a primary spot.. it might not even get used/turned out until after break it, unless he happensto take the rpm high enough?

Shumster 06-08-2015 12:14 PM

Been to 8K once or twice with no issues. I didn't listen to 9K and babied the last 2 remans and looked what happened with them haha. So this one is getting drivin normally.

Gravey 06-08-2015 12:57 PM

Good to hear! :) Keep us posted!

dannobre 06-08-2015 02:43 PM

I would be careful...you want to get 4-500KM on the bearings before you beat on it too bad.

( stay below 6K)

Have a good drive back and remember it's downhill from Rogers Pass so you should be good to go ;)

Shumster 06-08-2015 05:19 PM

Will do, I'm definitely not driving it hard, I just did a few pulls for confidence sake. I'm in Meritt right now! Everything seems good. Almost ran out of gas on the coquihalla though. I think I had 4 liters left...bad planning on my part.

Shumster 06-09-2015 01:59 AM

I MADE IT!!!!!

Thank you so much to everyone who has given me advice and support through this whole thing.

What an amazing drive, I really fell in love all over again. Needless to say she won't be going anywhere.

Gotta love a happy ending.

Bladecutter 06-10-2015 04:34 PM

Congrats!

Now go get a compression test! j/k

Chances are, you probably don't want to know. :)

Good stuff! When I had my 8, I usually went to VIP Mazda in Abbotsford since I am from there, but I would trust my 8 with West Coast Mazda over others. Awesome guys over there from my experience.
