I would call MNAO if the dealer can't give you clear and concise information on what they are doing. Sadly this is typical, when my car was under warranty they hated me at my local dealer. Some of the bullshit they come up with is hilarious and then when you call them out they get defensive. They always gave me shit about my midpipe and then when pushed could never explain how it was related to a problem.

Shumster 05-13-2015 02:18 PM

Just got off the phone with Mazda Canada. They were only able to regurgitate the information that the service manager at the dealership said.

They told me to be patient.

Ha

9krpmrx8 05-13-2015 02:34 PM

I think you have been plenty patient.

MikeTyson8MyKids 05-13-2015 04:05 PM

No kidding. They probably should have sent some engineering staff out quickly diagnos all those engine failures.

Exactly

I had a reman blow around 1200 miles because someone screwed up assembling the motor at the reman factory. As 9k said, shit happens. MNAO gave me the run around but the dealership went to bat for me and made sure it got replaced under warranty.

They are hung up on the fact that all 3 engines died from rotor 1 compression loss which leads them to believe it's from an external cause.

It bothers me that they have literally no timeline on getting this delt with.

Which is why they really should have sent some engineering staff to your dealer. In a hours they could have had to blown engines apart and visually identified the cause.

Without that, it's guessing on their part.

Shumster 05-13-2015 10:23 PM

Ugh, I know. They keep assuring me that the mechanic working on my car has "30 years of experience" rebuilding rotaries. 'Cept he hasn't found shit.

It's sad. I've honestly started looking at FDs. Before this happened the thought of selling had never crossed my mind.

Mazda Japan does not allow the dealerships to take the motor apart. They treat them as R&D. Once the engine is out it gets sent off to a reman factory to be reviewed by qualified techs to document what went wrong.

He won't be able to without seeing inside the engine.

Mazda really needs to up their game here. If they are set on not having the engines taken down at the dealer, then they need to be rapid shipped to where they can be taken down. That should take a day or two, max. Or, bore scope it right there.

Keep making noise, they'll get the idea you would really like to have your car back. :)

If they send someone qualified to the dealer to do it, there is no reason they can't.

Never said it was not possible but that is not Mazda's business model.

Oh yea, I'm not arguing that. But, somewhere someone has the ability and the budget to say "let's go" for a special circumstance. Losing 3 engines in a row should be that special circumstance.

Mazda has traveling engineers...wonder what the coporate policy is for them to get the green to go.

Suk4ever 05-15-2015 03:13 PM

they should just give you a same year 8, and take this one back to investigate after all this. And they never suspect their own mechanic might be the problem (might be hooking something wrong all 3 times). GEEEZE

Wish you luck buddy

Shumster 05-15-2015 09:36 PM

Alright everyone,

They think they figured it out. Apparently 1 of the 6 oil nozzles wasn't spraying properly (only dripping). The service manager has checked everything and this is the only thing he can think of that could be causing the issue.

That being said, they have approved another engine. I will be paying for a new nozzle and the driver that operates the nozzle which they discovered to have messed up resistance readings. 300$

Not really sure what to think but i'm happy that they are moving forward.

Thanks everyone for the advice and support. Hopefully this is resolving soon.

G_ man 05-15-2015 10:11 PM

All I'm going to say is!!! (Good Luck)

Partially plugged nozzle causing engines to go that quickly? Man I doubt that, but for your sake, I hope it is.

They never actually analyzed the failed engines, did they?

dannobre 05-15-2015 11:39 PM

There is not much of a chance that that caused the failure that quickly :(

2/3 of the oil nozzles is what the Series 1's had.....

Hopefully the new reman is better :) I think it is just shitty remans and bad luck

Shumster 05-16-2015 01:21 AM

I'm really worried about that. If I fly back to Victoria just to have my car die again I will be totally pissed.

No analysis but they said when they looked in the plug holes all the apex seals were intact and in good condition

Ha...but that same engine had "zero compression" according to them.

There is so much wrong here with how they are handling your situation.

Hopefully this was just bad luck on a few sloppy reman builds...and you're good to go now.

Shumster 05-16-2015 12:05 PM

Ugh, i'm stressed.

I know, when they told me that I asked if they thought it was the side seals that went instead. They weren't sure.

I'm scared of getting it back just to have another failure. Not to mention having to drive it 1000KMs back to Calgary.

I hope as well that it is just sloppy reman assembly. But even I have to admit it's odd that all 3 engines died so suddenly and similarly.

Shumster 05-20-2015 07:14 PM

Just talked with a friend that owns the rotary shop in Calgary. He also says it's bullshit and there is no way it could be a single oil injection nozzle.

I will be calling Mazda Canada tomorrow to discuss. Will update if I have something

9krpmrx8 05-20-2015 11:47 PM

You didn't believe us? J/K. Good luck.

Dominarian 05-22-2015 11:19 AM

Wow. I seem to be one of the few that had a great dealership experience with my engine replacement. Wish I could send some of that luck your way man, that's awful :(

Shumster 05-26-2015 06:11 PM

Hey Guys, so I've been trying to talk with Mazda Canada for about the last week about my concerns with the oil nozzle not being the actual cause. I have pretty much gotten nowhere with them. Have not heard from the dealership however according to their previous timeline the 4th engine should be going in soon.

What i'm looking for is some advice on how to generate a little more noise. I feel like no one is really taking me seriously right now and was hoping any of you might have some ideas. Mainly i'm frustrated because my case is being treated like every other customer relations case. You'd think it would be handled more specifically due to the obvious circumstances.

So pretty much does anyone have the email to Mazda Canada's CEO or equivalent.

Haha.
