redlining confusion

Who says you have to redline?
Every post I read people are saying....oh make sure you redline everyday or every time you drive. I'm really curious where this comes from...is this an official recommendation from Mazda...if not then where does this recommendation come from? thanks

Read this thread. It is from a Mazda employee that is at a remanufacturing plant in Virginia. He is a tech, rebuilding bad Renesis engines. It will give you the answers you seek.

I don't buy Kool-Aid
However, If you WOT your car when you getting on freeway onramps you will be cleaning out any CARB build up your Car might have. I do mine every day or every other day (Not a lot of Cops wher I'm at) and my baby loves it
As for the recommendation from Mazda when and if you got your Car brand new you should have got a small brochure explaining how the Rotary love to go beep and what beep is all about and how not to be afraid of the beep

If you drive your Car around for a week like a Granny. Then one day WOT 1st 2nd & 3rd you will see a shat load of black smooooook come out of your Exhaust your face might look like this -> when you see it and after you might think WTF just happen?

The problem is, there is usually no opportunity to stomp into redline every day. There is almost always another vehicle in front waiting at the light to turn onto the ramp. Whenever there is a vehicle in front, there's no chance of performing a redline maintenance run.
RX8 is just too fast and powerful and any vehicle in front means I cannot accelerate full speed and therefore cannot redline appropriately.

If you dont want to red line then dont do it. Nobody said you have to. Its simply a guideline to these engines.

If you cant redline on the freeway on ramps then do it on the freeway lol I dont know do it at 1am when no ones out. Or get the Cans for the Carb cleaner from mazsport or what ever its called and clean your Car or take it to a Mazda dealer and have them do it for you.
This car was built for this, Its not a Ford.
Good luck.

It is a valid question.
First off (and no offense to Sleepy Z) he is a newbie to this board, and although his info on renesis remans is informative I have to also consider that he is a tech trainee.
It is called Herd Mentality.
An idea gets floated and people who want to subscribe to that idea find reasons to support that idea, and those that want to drive their car hard find their excuse to drive it hard, meanwhile, some tech in training says redline it which gives people further excuse to redline it......pretty soon the hunch becomes fact if enough people subscribe to it.
So if carbon only gets burned at redline.................what happens between 3000RPM and say.....7000 RPM? Does carbon not burn between 3000 and 7000?
I hear the advice to redline is from those that have had engine trouble, and those that run fabulous.. That could be faulty thinking.
The rotary has some faults.......
Engine trouble cannot be attributed ONLY to failure to redline. What about all the 8's on the road that have had no problems and have not been redlined everyday?
Engines that have NOT had engine trouble, it is too easy to say it is mostly due to redlining.
For every RX8 that is reported to have a bad engine due to lack of redlining, there may be just as many or more that are A-OK without redlining........but we don't hear about those, we only hear about the bad, not the good.
After all, the members on this board represent .000000001000 of all 8's on the road......... however many members on this board, I don't think that is representative enough nor comprehensive enough to make it fact, y'know?
What I also don't understand is if "Yoshi/TT" can barely speak English........then what are the odds that something may have been lost in translation? If he can barely speak English then where/who is the clear "redline everyday" message coming from?
Having said that........I redline all the time, not because some it is recommended here, but because I naturally drive it hard.
But the topic starters question is valid........the whole "Redline Everyday" notion reeks of herd or mentality.
I'm not saying redlining is good or bad, I'm just questioning the quality of information we examine (or possibly are not even considering) before messing with an expensive fine car like an 8.

Another example of the herd mentality: want to gain muscle --> eat lots and lots of protein. Almost everyone will tell you that, even the meatheads in the gym who you'd be inclined to trust. "They're the experts", yes? No, the truth is those guys get huge because they are in the gym for hours every day consistenly. In fact, if you want to gain muscle, the real answer is eat lots of CARBS. If you don't believe me, go check out any book about weight training. Yet, because you hear "protein, protein, protein", that myth tends to reinforce itself and linger.
Now that said, I have no idea if the pros of redlining outweight the cons. Certainly there must be cons, no? It's tougher on your transmission, if nothing else. I also think it's a valid question. (by the way, RotaryGod does have a good knowledge of the rotary inside and out, so I'm inclined to believe him. But even a doctor specialist can misdiagnose, so I also like a second (informed) option!)

Carbon has been a problem for Rotary engine since day 1.
if you want to know more, you have to work on it, on your own.
