Redline... and then what?

Redline... and then what?
I redline in 2nd gear, but am a little bit confused about what to do next...sometimes i just shift from 2nd to 6th gear directly since the car is already going at 60mph+, sometimes i shift from 2nd to 3rd to 4th etc...
what is the preferred way to do it (a.k.a, better for engine/trany)?
also, i remember seeing someone saying that one should redline by flooring gas to burn off the carbon, holding gas pedal half-way down till redline is not going to help much in burning carbon residue...is that true?

WOT = Wide Open Throttle. You are really only going to the max burn by pedal the whole way down. The higher the load, the better the burn, the better the carbon cleaning. Half way down on the pedal is only part load, so only part of the cleaning power.
What you do next is up to you, your driving style, and the conditions around you.

The only thing the tranny doesn't like is if you decide to run it constantly at high rpms...7500+. I have seen plenty of trannys give up then, coming from a racing standpoint. Anything less and you should be good.

or a cat - cat's are fun and easy to punch. but then you have to think to yourself, "how the hell did a cat get into my passenger's seat and put on its seatbelt? and why is it wearing a tuxedo?"
oh, i hope pink flea doesn't see this.

i don't get these random comments...you guys can have as much fun as you want in this thread, i don't really care. but i just hope someone can tell from a pure mechanical point of view: will redline in 2nd and shift to 6th directly harm the engine/tranny (since u r skipping 3 gears)?

Huge hole is huge
No, absolutely no damage will come from skipping gears, as long as you don't try to shift from 9k RPM straight to 6th really fast. Most cases, you'll get a quick grind. Redline in 2nd, neutral, then slowly shift to 6th and call it good.
On note of the fun:
Usually whenever I redline in 2nd, I activate my boosters and hit my "ramp" button, then fly to the moon to say Hi to the Mooninites.
