Down here in Orange County, there's a crap load of red light camera's but they are only turned on in four of the cities. So most of them don't even work, so it isn't often you have to deal with them. But when you get a ticket from the camera's down here, the fee is gnarly.

Anyway, most of the time when you don't stop at a red light then turn and an authority figure is watching, including a camera. You get a ticket. haha

Those cameras you are seeing at intersections are not traffic control cameras. They are traffic observance cameras. They watch these cameras to see how many cars go through at certain times of the day so they can program the timing.

Plus the fact, if you fight the ticket, you won't go before the judge. You will be sent to an arbitrator and you won't win. The only way to get this before a judge is to sue the city.

I might be stating the obvious, but ...

The photos have a timestamp. There's a 1.1 second delay between the two photos. There's no way you could have come to a complete stop then gone after checking that it was all clear.

Red light always means come to a stop. Even if you're making a right turn.

Simple language is "Right Turn on Red after Stop" plain and simple.
If the light is red you have to stop first, if it is yellow just F'ing stop then make your turn.
You can't get caught if you do no wrong.

here is the porcess for red light tickets in louisiana. I have 2 from my old truck that i got like 8 months ago and my friend got about 7 or 8 in his old m3 some of witch are over a year old haha

1. You get your picture taken
2. ~3 months later you get a ticket w/ the picture in the mail
3. throw that **** away or post it on a forum if its a funny pic
4. ~2 months later you will get a reminder and a late fee! OH NOESSS!!! throw that **** away aswell
5. ~2-3 months later some "lawyer" will call you telling you he will bring you to court if you dont pay the 25$ ticket and the 15$ late fee
6. Tell him to Phuk off and hang up and giggle alittle bit
7. Laugh at the no0bs because they cant do anything else.

Let me guess...you have never violated a traffic rule in your driving history...right? You always maintain speed at or under the posted limit. Always come to a full and complete stop at signs and lights. Always signal before changing lanes. Always turn on your wipers and headlights at the slightest hint of rain. You never turn the tires over leaving from a driveway or a stop. Never practice "unreasonable acceleration" by revving your rotary into the higher ranges while accelerating from a stop.

Traffic violation sackriders/cheerleaders make me sick. Especially when any reasonable person knows that drivers of a car such as ours will at very least, on occasion, open the car up and bend (or break) a few laws. But then they want to get on the internet and talk down to others who admit to, or get caught at, doing the same things.

Okay...before I post this...I am not directing this entirely at you. Perhaps I am taking your comment the wrong way, and if so, I am sorry. This can also be directed at most of the posts after yours. But I read this kind of **** on this forum all the time. Half of the people here act holier than thou when someone else posts something of this nature, and I just sit here dumbfounded as I read through the crap.

Weird little differences. No turning right on red here, no matter what you do. Also up until recently all cameras that take you for offences must be facing the driver, if you can't see the driver they can't charge you. However I think that might have been changed very recently and they only catch the license plate now, probably some EC law.

Right turn on red is relatively recent. California (and maybe a couple of other western states) had it for a long time. It was adopted by most of the rest of the states in the 1970s, as a fuel saving measure.

As a couple of people have pointed out, violations caught on camera are treated as a civil violation, much like parking tickets. The only problem is that they can be a pretty good moneymaker, and some places have implemented them that way. For example, Montgomery County Maryland would set the yellow period for the light with a camera shorter than for lights without a camera.

Personally, I'm in favor of red light cameras. Where I live (Northern Virginia) people really push yellow lights too hard, resulting in a lot of T-bone crashes. Cameras did a lot of good. Unfortunately, publicity about moneymaking setups in Maryland and DC resulted in the Virginia law not getting renewed.

Quite a few times, but when I come to a stop sign or a red light I follow the procedure I quoted above... Have been doing it for the better part of 25 years. So, Yeah. Okay.

I do it all the time. Hell, just the other night I was going well over 90 in a 45. But I wasn't stupid enough to do it in front of a cop, or a camera, or with any measurable number of witnesses.

Uh right on red (when living in PA) has been around all the time and since i've lived in FLunles it say "No right on red" then of course you can't turn there!

How far back do you go for PA and FL? I guess it's been widespread for a long time...over 30 years. But before that it was mostly California, and people referred to it as "The Western rule" or "The California rule." Promoted heavily in the 70s after the first oil embargo.

Funny deal about the "No right on red" signs. Both New York City and Washington DC did not want right turn on red. Very reasonable for places like that, and I presume other big cities did the same. New York was able to just declare the rule globally, and put up "Right turn on red" signs at specific intersections where they wanted to allow it. DC, on the other hand, was not allowed to set a global rule. They had to put up "No right on red" signs at every freaking intersection.

I guess that's what DC gets for being host to the Federal Government.

Virginia is cool in that it has a left on red rule, as well as right on red. It's only between one way streets, of course, but I see enough drivers here who don't quite catch that nuance.

Right on red != run the light

Right on red means you come to a full stop, verify there is no oncoming traffic who has the right of way (ie - they're the ones with the green light), and then turn.

The only time the above rule doesn't apply is if there is a sign that states "Wait on Red" or "No Right On Red" which we have quite a few of.

This is basic stuff and damn straight I'm going to point it out. It's not a matter of being holier than thou, it's basic driving ability right up there with learning to read in 1st grade.

Florida................ever since early 70's as far as I know. Was when I learned about that time.
Also, a lot of states(Florida included). will allow a left on red, but ONLY on to a one way street as you said.

BTW................can we let this thread die now? He clearly didn't stop and he's bitchin cause he got caught???? WTF?

And the same law applies in Texas. I grew up down there and sorely miss their grid based city streets and inner and outer loops. Good planning (or should I say planning of any kind) FTW!

Texas does own, we have about 3 actual red light photo enforced cameras where I live; the hell with them. They tried that **** on me about 2 months ago saying I ran a red, well when the speed limit is 45 and the yellow light is about 2 seconds and I was already half way through what am I supposed to do stop and back up? LOL. Yeah that ticket got dropped. Dumbass capitalists. the idea was good but people get retarded with it.

yeah i know when it's red that you must stop and yield to oncoming traffic and then u can go as for pa il ive there for abut 19 yrs here in FL only a yr!
