I seem to recall a report a few weeks ago that John Stossel did on 20/20 in regards to this very subject. Using data from insurance companies they determined that no one car color is more susceptible to crashes than another.

well when your out driving on the sun its hard to see the yellow so I would mark that one off of you list too... the winning blue is also hard to see when your driving underwater... that is if you have that option on the car

LMAO...thanks for the reminder...I was going to go for the underwater option but it was going to conflict with the laser force field option...I'm big on safety so I'll go for the force field....but then again the batman automatic security armour option looks good too.
thanks tiggerlee, now I can rest assured that no matter what color i choose my 8 and I have as much chance as all the other cars worse or worse!

To my best understanding, red cars are more likely to crash than other colors, but for no other reason than sportier cars are red, and is more associated with dangerous driving. Other than knowing how to identify the car, your insurance company will ask you what color the car is to gauge the probability of a crash.

I think you're on to something here SlayerRX8. When you think of it, red would have to be the most popular colour for a sports car....well i think you've helped me narrow it down....
question though, does it mean that insurance on red cars is more? is there a rank for every color? so if i got a bright snot green one or vomit brown, people would try to avoid me coz they dont want that sickening color on their car? therefore insurance companies would put those colors at the bottom of the rank and charge less for insurance!! great!! ....but seriously, are red cars more expensive to insure?

No, they are not. Color has no bearing on price. I read somewhere, though, that decades ago red cars used to (allegedly) cost more to insure because of the price of the paint itself, but I don't know if that is accurate or not.

My insurance (been through two companies in two months now since hte first one was a real ***, LOL) didn't ask the color at all. They just wanted the VIN on my car and the price of the car, the anti-theft/security features on the car, and the safety features primarily for determining my rate. Initially the new company listed the value of the car as a base model so I had to fax them my purchase information so they could raise the value on their paper $11K for the purpose of gap insurance and replacement value. That, of course, raised my insurance by $16 for six months, so not a big deal.

My car ins. co. asked me;"How far do you drive, is your car parked in a privet drive way or on the street, how many doors do your car have, do you have a room mate, how many people will be driving the car, what year, ect". They never asked what color my car was.

That's one of the most ridiculous things I've read today.
