recommended wash and wax?
OK, so the weather has finally broke here, and I am ready for the first wax on my 8. I have read on here where some folks are using that new wax, but cant remember what it was called. Where to get it? How often you guys waxing your 8's? Recommended car wash? Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Check out the Show and Shine forum and search on Zaino.
I've used tons of waxes including Zymol, Pinnacle, Liguid Glass, Mothers and Mequiar's and NOTHING has matched Zaino for easy of use and KILLER shine.

FREE ADVICE!
Most would agree, the best is Zaino and it's line of related car-care products. It does, however, require a lot of work and considerably more $$$ than other methods.
Zaino Website
I, personally wash and wax my car every Saturday (and sometimes in between), and have never used Zaino. I start by placing wet paper towels on the front and anywhere there have been bug splats. Let these soak for 15 to 20 minutes, then rub off the bugs (works like a charm).
I then spray my wheels with either McGuires or Hotwheels wheel cleaner, then hose down the car. I wash using Turtlewax carwash, then rinse and spray the car with Eagle 1 Wax-as-U-Dry, using a squigee on the windows. After it's completely dry, I will buff out with a micro-fiber towel, spray another coat of wax, then buff again.
For the molding and interior rubber/plastics, I use Mother's Back To Black. For the tires, Armor All tire cleaner.
One day I may invest in the Zaino line and allot the necessary time and energy. Until then, it looks great the way I do it.

Any wax will do a good job like Zaino if you wax your car 7 days a week like most that use it do, however, if you are a little less **** check out Maguire's NXT which is a great wax at a good price and from what I have read has very similar results to Zaino.

Actually, Zaino is less time consuming than most waxes. It's only the first aplication that takes a lot of time IF you go all out with the process. Since it's a one time deal I did so. Afterwards, after giving my car a wash, it's a 45 minute process to apply and remove a layer of Zaino.
I usually will put on a layer of zaino every 3-4 weeks and car looks great.

1 - you don't need the whole kit.
2- the first time doesn't take that long
3 - Zaino is NOT expensive
4 - Zaino outlasts ALL carnuba waxes
Coat number three goes on tomorrow morning. I suggest you also wax your car and we will compare them on Sunday. Then I'll accept your appologies. :D
BTW, somewhere there is a post that links a test the NSX guys did. The took a hood from a car, sectioned it off and waxed 6 different sections with different products including Zaino, Zymol and Mequiar's. They left the hood outside for over a month. The Zaino came out the clear winner.

I know there are a lot of Zaino fans here and everywhere, but if you are not looking to clay and want and equal amount of protection you may want to try Collonite.
I use #845 since it contains zero abrasives. I've been using it for 12 years now.....wax my cars WEEKLY!!!! Never takes off clearcoat. I know most of you arent as crazy about waxing as me......
I've also used #915 (its a paste and a little harder to put on than the liquid #845, but it's shine is unbeaten).

Screw Zaino
Give Pinnacle Souveran a try. It goes on and comes off so easily and looks so great that it makes you wonder why you ever wasted your time with Meguiars, Zymol, etc.

Zaino is great. You DON'T need to apply another layer every time you wash the car. Just put 3 or 4 layers on once every six months and that's it.
After that is done, you just wash with Zaino wash, dry the car, and spray and wipe with Zaino Z6 if you want extra shine. :D
It's pretty easy, and I'm not someone who likes to spend extraordinary amounts of time cleaning my car.

As I'm from the UK, it's a real pain to get the Zaino's over here (had to get a friend in the US to order and then ship over privately), but ITS WORTH IT!
I used it for 5 years on my old car waxing it maybe 3-4 times a year, and when I sold it everyone who saw it said it was the best paint finish they'd ever seen on a Fiat Coupe (real crap paint normally, and the clearcoat always goes milky). Now it's on my 8 (just one coat of z5 up to now) it already looks better than it did on day 1, and with a coat of z2 it should come up even better.

Meguiar's NXT works great, it's a synthetic polymer like I believe Zaino is, works really well, smells good, and is easy to get off, it works great on a new finish. I'm planning to help my friend wax his black '95 Supra with it tomorrow which will be the real test. I will post results.

When I had my G35, I would wax it twice a month with carnauba wax, and wash it once a week. Also, I would detail the car everytime I washed the car.
With my 8, I've washed it three times already (only had it a month) and waxed out all of the sticker blemishes (the residue that stays on after the dealer peels the protective peel). I plan on waxing with Zaino next weekend

Consumer Reports did their testing on car waxes, but did not include Zaino for some insane reason. They tested nearly all the other popular brands and rated by several categories, including ease of use, how long it lasted, how glossy the shine was and whether or not it made microscopic scratches in the finish. An interesting point they made was that dark colors require a different type of wax than light colors, because of the affect of microscopic scratches (abrasiveness).
For my Nordic Green 8 I chose Zymol which tested with the best shine and least abrasiveness - although it is not as long lasting as some of the other popular brands.
Another surprise was Turtle Wax Express Shine spray wax, which tested high gloss, low abrasiveness but did not last very long at all - good for quick and easy touch ups. It also (according to CR) does not leave a residue on rubber or plastic trim work.

I was getting ready order Zaino Z-1 and Z-2 for my new 8, but got distracted by the other products.
Has anyone tried the ZFX™ Flash Cure Accelerator Additive?
Or the Z-16 tire gloss?
Last question concerns "new car" paint protectant that should be removed which is mentioned at the Zymol site. If it's true, would the Zaino cut through this?
Comments and opinions on the ZFX and tire gloss would be appreciated.
