Received buy back offer

For those of you curious of the process. I mailed the required info overnight UPS on the 4th. Mazda (ISG) called on the 5th to confirm receipt and give me a phone number and extension. I received an email today (11th). They are paying off the loan and returning all fees, down payment and taxes. I did not have a trade in. They are also reimbursing the cost of a front mask I purchased a month after I bought the car. The only money I am out is the one car payment I made. Very fair since I got to own and drive the car for a month. I'm returning it to the same dealer I bought it from next week and will receive the check at that time.
Please don't blast me because I'm returning the car. I hope you all enjoy yours; just did not meet my expectations. This is informational for those that are considering the repurchase option.

Yes and the extremely helpful customer service rep said if it was a Mazda accessory it would be reimbursed. Faxed the receipt and that was it. I have to give Mazda credit for keeping their word. This is a seemless process.

has anybody asked mazda if they would pay for non mazda accessories such as tint or clear bra. I think they should be responsible for this also if you had it installed before you got the letter.

What?! That's not what the deal is. You are supposed to get the entire purchase price of the car back. You should only be out the interest you paid on the loan year to date.

I 'm getting all of the $10K I put down plus the expense of the bra plus payoff on the loan. I'm not going to worry about one car payment. I just want to close the deal so I can get something else. I consider it a rental. I've actually had the car for 7 weeks, so I don't feel ripped.

I just went and reread the repurchase option letter. It clearly states that "principal will be reimbursed." I think you will be surprised JJ and find that you will get most of your first payment back as well.

I'm not totally sure. The reason why I wanted the 8 was because it's a 4 seater. I'm not interested in a 2 seater because I'm usually hauling people around with me. I'm going to have to sacrifice the style and speed and drop down to maybe an Acura RXS type S. Drove the Toyota Solara and hated it plus it looks horrible. I lost confidence in my 8. It was a first allocation car and there were too many warning signs that I would be dealing with more bugs than I'm willing to work through for $33K.

I'm glad you pushed me on this. Thanks! Just looked it over again and Mazda can't do basic math. They have everything listed right, but can't add and subtract. Numbers seem to be a problem for this company!

JJflash, I think you expressed the sentiments of many rx8 buyers. I got the 8 for the 4 seats, the style and the power. I hate to take it back but I think there are going to be lots of bugs many have surfaced and I have just a gut feeling there will be many more

It is most likely that 100% of the first payment will not be reimbursed due to that having the most amount of interest from the loan.

The acknowledgement letter clearly says that they will not refund "aftermarket non-genuine Mazda accessories/equipment/modifications installed after purchase."

Question Double sales tax?

Here in Texas, 6.25% sales tax is payable every time a car changes hands. Thus, sales tax was included in the capitalized cost when I took out my lease, and a second tax event will take place when the vehicle is bought back from the leasing company. I trust that Mazda will be picking up this extra tax bill, but I intend to call them again tomorrow to confirm.

please let us know when you make that decition. i am just curious too... may i suggest to look at the new honda accord couple? u can get ine fully loaded for $24-25K (even nav) then save the extra $7k for a whole engine work (turbo and stuff) and you will get the power dreamed of. the style is not that bad really, it just won't have the same 'glamour' that the 8 ! nor the handling, etc. BUT practicality i guess.. also if you want the power right in, look into the wrx sti . not much style at all but tons of space to haul people and things..
i am with you in the opinion. In theory and paper, the 8 concealed the perfect offerings for many of us, ofcourse the power, gas , heat, ext. poblems is what make some of us a hard the decision to chose from. i am still deciding on it.

Eccles,

My only concern with the buyback is whether or not Mazda will reimburse me for the sales tax I will now have to pay on the purchase of a new car due to the fact that I no longer have a car to trade in. In my case, I traded a $30,000 car so the sales tax here in Texas is $1,875. Do you know for certain if Mazda is reimbursing the sales taxes people will now have to pay as a result of no longer having a car to trade?

Thanks

Get real, Tomster! You might as well ask Mazda to pay for your next car.

It's your decision to return the car, and they will give you what you paid for the RX-8. I'm pretty sure they will not help you buy your next car.
