Recal Poll for Engine

I thought it might be a good idea to get actual results of the Engine recall.

Please vote only after you have had your recall done.

I had mine done to day :)

NoTears316 09-05-2006 05:12 PM

Just needed the PCM reprogram

DOMINION 09-06-2006 03:04 AM

Oh look only 5 RX-8's need a new Engine lol

1.3L 09-06-2006 09:58 AM

Question for those of you who got a new engine: did your original engine display any symptoms? Or did it seem to run normally?

1.3L

NoTears316 09-06-2006 12:24 PM

I'm willing to bet they are bogus votes. There are no threads on them.

Marc_H 09-06-2006 03:24 PM

No new engine needed. Just new leading spark plugs and a reflash.

Jax_RX8 09-06-2006 04:02 PM

Got my recall performed today, Only got the PCM reflash and I already had the new leading plugs installed as part of the delivery work - but my car is only 500 miles old at this point.

PHA RX-8 09-06-2006 04:21 PM

I got the bad news today from the dealer. They tested it yesterday and I failed. New engine should be in in 2 weeks. The tech has replaced 15+ engines so I hope I am in good hands.

drogers5 09-06-2006 05:58 PM

I got the bad news today from the dealer saying I need a new engine. I have been have alot of power issues when the temp outside got over 80. They told me that I am the first engine replacement. I sure hope they know what they are doing. They told me they will have it done next week, I will hold my breath. Should I get a new flywheel and clutch done since the engine is out.

swoope 09-06-2006 08:09 PM

have not got the letter yet, but yes i am one of the ones that needs a new motor..

beers

TheDosDog 09-06-2006 08:33 PM

Mine passed. At 52k it feels strong as ever.

captain mercury 09-06-2006 09:28 PM

is it REALLY bad news to get a "new" engine?

swoope 09-06-2006 09:31 PM

not in my mind!!

fix the problem dont fix the blame.

beers

DOMINION 09-06-2006 11:19 PM

^Ditto

Howard 09-07-2006 08:28 AM

Can we make this a sticky remporarily?

bleed gold 09-07-2006 10:59 AM

Mine is on engine #2, and it checked out with a clean bill of health yesterday. My engine #2 was installed back around April 2006. They did the PCM and the motor mounts while I was there. I was surprised by the difference the motor mounts made in the feel--much smoother. The stat from the dealership (Mazda South in Austin, TX) was that they've done a few dozen replacements in the past 6 months. Current mileage is 49K with about 8K on the new engine.

Next stop collision center to check some front end damage. A few weeks ago I hit a tire cap off of a semi on the Interstate when their tire blew and I'm hoping its just the air dam.

On the plus side I got to drive a '07 CX-7 for 5 days while they waited on the motor mounts. :) Pretty sweet ride for those of you in the market for a performance SUV.

ms292399 09-07-2006 11:57 AM

What engine recall are we talking about? I just got a voice mail from my dealer that said my car is being recalled for emissions reasons. Is this the same recall? I havent seen anything on here about recall for emissions.

Nevermind, i've already answered my own stupid question

Old Rotor 09-07-2006 01:29 PM

My dealer said they knew of the recall and did some allready, but did not know about ,CX-7 loaner, wash and gas. They called me back in an hour saying they have all the info about it now and will start (AutoWest Mazda Roseville). I informed them that it pinged on hot days when I pushed it at about 5k rpm. They said it PASSED. They ordered new motor mounts, should be in next week. They did the 30k service, oil&filter, coolant, rear end fluid, trailing spark plugs,(leading were just change). Glad I was a preorder N/C!! It is running real good and I have 30K left on warranty. Oh and they cleaned it and toped of the gas(12gal+). The CX-7 GT-AWD with 12 miles on it was fun for the day loaner, thanks Mazda.

cruzdreamer 09-07-2006 02:40 PM

Hmmm...

Wow they gave you a CX 7 for a loaner...sweet! That is the car I want to buy in about a month! My engine light came on today....checked gas cap and it was not on...I filled up this morning and forgot to secure it....first time. Light is still on despite the tightening of cap. Call in to dealer no call back yet..I am hoping they will take care of recall while I am in there. i have not got my letter yet...Illinois. They will probably want to sell me the CX 7 right then and there......I am not ready...I don't have any extra cash...hmmmm....if they can get me no money down and a great trade on my 8(which is doubtful). They offered $18,000 a month ago.......now I may take consider that!undefined

Old Rotor 09-07-2006 04:14 PM

The CX-7 is talked about as a loaner in the TSB....did you read all the files....,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,P.S. the cell will go off on its own after a few days of use..

JeRKy 8 Owner 09-07-2006 05:37 PM

I don't think this should be made a sticky unless the poll is reconfigured so that it shows which members ares voting for yes and which are voting for no.

rodrigo67 09-07-2006 05:41 PM

I know this is not scientific but we are showing a 20% rate of engine replacements...that can't be good...

ezrider55 09-07-2006 07:05 PM

Just got new flash-- engine and cat conv checked good and all other parts had already been replaced. Idel seems a little rougher but will wait for ECM to recalibrate before I complain. CX-7 with 103 miles as loaner. Filled gas tank for me. Gullo Mazda in Conroe.

cruzdreamer 09-07-2006 10:13 PM

Took my 8 in....for the CEL..... and it was the gas cap. My dealer says it may be another week till they can do the recall....don't have all the things they need to do it I guess. So, let me get this straight....I get a CX 7 for a loaner and it says so in the bulletin? I have yet to receive my recall letter.

doc.marx8 09-07-2006 10:24 PM

im presently having my recall done, and I was given a CX7 as a loaner. really fun to drive!

Razz1 09-07-2006 10:47 PM

I didn't take the free car.

Funnything is they never gave a full tank of gas either.

TopTrainer 09-07-2006 10:58 PM

I have a freakin toyota corolla to drive while my car is being inspected. So far the phone call wasn't good but they didn't give me a difinitive answer. They said the tech found a lot of stuff and it came up with several previous engine and PCM repairs so they were checking into those. :icon_tdow

c41250n 09-08-2006 04:53 AM

if really have to replace the engine?
how long does it take?

drogers5 09-08-2006 08:16 AM

My dealer told me like a week and half for mine. I am not holding my breath. They gave me a taurus what a piece of crap.

Chasvhill 09-08-2006 09:11 AM

Took mine in for the recall and passed. :) Got new plugs and a re-flash. Also a car wash and a full tank of fuel. My loaner was also a new CX-7 but it must have been the base model. It was basically just a peppy mini-van. :boring:

Car is running great and I've got 30,000 miles of warranty left on it. :ylsuper:

EuroRX8 09-08-2006 08:36 PM

No new engine here:) Service manager said that they've had many 8s in for the recall and zero replacements so far. This is in Texas, at major dealer, at the end of a very hot summer (1.5 month above 100 degrees w/o a day of interruption). As I wrote in another thread, I think it's only question of bad luck and/or use of synthetic oil.
My loaner was a Jeep Liberty. Not a bad car. Not for my driving style though..

I went to Partyka Mazda today, and one of the reasons was to see if they could perform the recall check. They said they couldn't, because they have not yet received the exact details from Mazda as to what to do for the recall.

Is this BS? It seems like a lot of other people have gotten their vehicles checked out. Partyka said they wouldn't start until the end of the month.

puch96 09-09-2006 10:15 AM

I went to Sesi Mazda in Ypsilanti, Michigan yesterday hoping to get my recall done (even though I did not receive the recall letter yet)

I just went in in the morning without appointment, dropped the car off, they gave me a Mazda 6 to drive for the day.

1) They performed the recall (no questions asked)
2) Checked cat. converter - OK
3) Replaced leading spark plugs
4) Update PCM.
While the car was in the shop, I also asked for an oil change :)

The following are the things that they didn't do.
1) They did not wash my car (inside nor outside)
2) They did not top of the gas
3) They did not inform me that due to the PCM update, the car might consume more oil than before (I believe this was stated in the service procedure documents somewhere)...

PS> I asked if mine was the first vehicle at the service for the recall .... they said that there were two cars before me - all checked out OK>

I liked the fact that at least they took my car in without appointment and that they knew all about the recall. What I didn't like was that they did not provide with 100% cutomer service by failing to wash the vehicle and top of the gas as it was intructed by MNAO.

That's about it.....

Howard 09-09-2006 10:59 AM

I'm sorry that I didn't configure this pole differently. I do realize it does not give a totally accurate view of this recall. I do believe however that it is giving us some useful information. I noticed that most of the failures have been early in the recall. This may be because those with known issues were quick to get there car in. In any case I still think this should be a sticky for a while so that we can see results ove at least a 30 day period.

Howard 09-09-2006 11:01 AM

I also would like to see some of these recall threads merged.

cleoent 09-09-2006 11:13 AM

Of you guys that are getting your engines replaced, how many of you use synthetic oil, BE HONEST?

I got my thing done yesterday, no problems, no cx7, no gas and no wash. I'm pissed. I'm going to talk to my dealership today.

Old Rotor 09-09-2006 03:30 PM

Yes we need a complete survey that asks all the questions we are wondering about. #1...Oil type and consumtion and how often you changed, #2... gas reg or prem, mpg, did it ever PING, how often and what kind of driving were you doing, what type driver are you, easy going, agressive, racer. Did you ever go in for PCM up grades? There are just so many things to think about. ZOOM this is a good one for you please, your the best...

BunnyGirl 09-09-2006 03:42 PM

Multilayered survey somehow?

Mazmart 09-09-2006 03:49 PM

Autos vs stickshifts in those that failed would also be good, even though there is a disproportionate amount of stickshifts to start with.

roll out times for the recall are different depending on location.

I just got the call about my car. The service rep. called and informed me that I need a new engine. I now have to wait two weeks for delivery of the new engine. Should I be worried about some the items that I installed (racing beat intake & ground wire kit)? I'm suppose to pick up the car now and continue driving until the new engine arrives. Thanks inadvance.

stickman 09-13-2006 07:24 PM

Went in and car passed test (I figured it would because it ran great), got two lead plugs, PCM update, car washed and full tank of gas. It seems to rev even smoother than before and also seems to have a little more power. Its probably all in my head but I'm liking it.

Old Rotor 09-13-2006 08:03 PM

Did you have anything that warned you. Ping, loss of power, stalling. Please give us more info on you car(6sp,A/T,miles,type of oil used, ect....). There are alot of us curious about this.

Senna 09-13-2006 08:10 PM

No new engine for me. Just PCM, lead plugs, and that's it!!

echoj8 09-13-2006 08:23 PM

04 6spd, less 28,000 miles, royal purple stalled once about 4 months ago nothing else. Dealer did say I should remove the intake before they install new motor. Probably best I think cause I don't want them to lose the vacuum plug on the T/B.

Old Rotor 09-13-2006 09:14 PM

Will you continue to use synthetic oil? Will they be replaceing your cat? How has your oil use been? What type of driving do you do and how aggressive do you drive?

echoj8 09-13-2006 10:31 PM

Not sure. The rep didn't say. And my driving light somedays and 9,000 rpms other days. I don't race but I do enjoy really driving the car. I got no indication of bad compression not unless it happened slowly and I have not noticed anything. I still get roughly get 230-250mpg before the gas light.

heartygrain 09-14-2006 06:30 AM

Had the recall done and no new engine required. The cat was already replaced last year and they said it was fine. I just got the new flash and leading spark plugs.

I got a Mazda 3 for a rental. They said they didn't have any CX-7 loaners. They agreed to fill the gas and wash it only after I asked for it. It didn't seem to me like they actually read the service bulletin. Makes me wonder if they actually performed all the tests in the recall.

I'm at 40K with no other problems except getting the cat replaced last year.

Groundrush 09-14-2006 09:01 PM

Got mine back tonight...had it in to be have the squeaky brakes fixed. The replaced the pads, turned the rotors, and went ahead and performed the recall testing while I had it in there. Cat tested OK...they replaced my lead plugs and installed the new flash. Drove fine coming home tonight.

supergoat 09-14-2006 09:38 PM

Anyone with a supercat go in for the recall yet? If so did they say anything about it?
