Rear Billet Grille - Opinions?

Finals are over, and had some time to loiter...

After considering MazdaBob's $10 Billet Grille idea posted in the DIY section, I took the plunge today and went ahead and did it. Lots of individuals have done this mini-mod...so nothing special here...

Front Grille

I had some of the molding left over, however, and I decided that if the front was going to be comparatively more "bling," I might as well balance it out by adding some to the rear "grille" as well...

Rear Grille

Personally I think the rear molding is complimented by the rear rotary accent - I don't think it looks overbearing or clashes in anyway.

I always prefer the simple, clean look - which is partly why I didn't go for the factory appearance package. I wanted to get some opinions before the 3M material sets....looks great? take it off now? too bling...or too busy looking?

Thanks for the input everyone. After some consideration - sitting outside with a corona staring at the car for an hour or so - I decided to keep both the front and the rear moldings on. Seems to be growing on me. Hopefully, it'll stay on there securely...

davis,

bling or not, it looks great.. I generally hate bling, but your rear mod is really clean, and not bling at all, imo.

good job

Hollywood,

It cost 10 bucks to purchase chrome wheel well molding from pepboys. You need some snips to cut it. That it. Not a hard mod at all check the DIY forum for more info.

Is is possible to fit a 3rd line of molding on the rear.

The 2 lines look good but I think a 3rd would look great :D

yeah and you should consider putting some neon light under the car and a huge wing and perhaps 20" wheels with a nice ground clearance... finally civic owners might let you drive with them.

Vrimmick....why are you flaming so much

He is not putting a big *** wing on it...he is just accenting the somewhat bland rear grill. It might not be to your exact taste. But is is also not overdone. IMO is is pretty much just the same as adding fender strakes. For some, not for others. But it is not the "riciest" thing I have seen done. So perhaps you can say you don't like it and leave it at that

You can add a third strip, but IMO it might look rather compressed back there. I wanted to make sure the molding was visible, and by putting in another strip, from a distance, it might just look like a solid chrome block.

LOL - somone woke up on the wrong side of bed. A simple "I don't like it " would have sufficed. Well, I did ask for opinions and you are entitled to yours. Personally, I don't think the strips are "ricey" - as sea-rx8 stated, I think it's really no different from the aluminum fender strakes.

Another thing...the term "rice" is being thrown around ubiquitously, and I'm getting the impression that some people don't know what the term "riced-out" really refers to. Here's an informal website dedicated to defining "rice" and showing pictures of "riced-out" cars. I had a good laugh with some of the more elaborate ones:
