? re: signage for non-rotorheads to prevent flooding
I hate to start a thread for this, but I've spent the last hour searching various keywords to no avail. A couple of months ago someone here posted a very nice .pdf document (if I recall correctly...may have been a Word .doc) that explained to mechanics and the like about the need to warm up the RX8 to operating temperature before shutting it down. It had a very nice graphic of the guage pod along with clear instructions/information about flooding and the detriment it can cause the engine. I could have SWORN I saved it to my PC when I saw it, but I can't seem locate it, and now I can't find the thread. Halp! Need to take my car into the body shop tomorrow for some minor repairs (is $1100 minor?) and would like to stick one to the dashboard. Who ever finds and posts the link gets a free virtual donut. Thanks!

Why dont you just tell them to warm the Car up before they move it or they can pay for the deflooding at a Mazda dealer lol
On the other hand if you have the new flash you should not be flooding your Car if its not cold. Its ok to move it kinda warm.

Well...I DID tell them about the potential flooding issue when I obtained the estimate, but I don't claim to have any kind of confidence that the message will make it's way to everyone who may wind up behind the wheel of my car. I'm sure that if I told them about the issue when it's dropped off and asked them to add it to their documentation that they would cover any associated costs if it flooded, but I'd rather not have to worry about the hassle. Losing my car for four days while they do body work sucks enough. I don't need to lose it to the dealer for a couple days too.
And yep, my comp has been reflashed, so I know the likelihood of a flood is very low, but they'll have it for nearly a week. If they move it around their lot enough...repeatedly...then who knows. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thanks for the feedback though.

Thanks CT...I had that one already, but there is a newer one, with some nifty graphics that I'm looking for. I've already printed this one and will use it if I can't find the other. I appreciate the help though, so here's your donut.

They had it three days. Called me it is done and that it had flooded on the first day (you let it sit flooded for three days ). Rep stated remember what we talked about (he claimed they would not be liable when checking in. I said whatever we will see).
I called their corporate office, explained what happened. They took care of it for the local shop. The receptionist told me afterwards she backed me up to the regional office. I even have the latest flash.
Stupid is as stupid does.

Had some body work done. Verbal warning given, sign taped to steering wheel, got stared down by a sales rep (man if we had been in a bar or anywhere else....bam).

I think i will print that sign and use it next time instead of my usual post-it note on the steering wheel....
the last time at the body shop I stopped by early to pick-up my car and saw them start it up with tons of smoke pouring out the exhaust indicating they either flooded it or came damn near close to flooding it

which shop did you go to?
To be fair though corporate jumped....and high. It blew my mind. They did right. However the sales dude....man pull that crap on me in a bar and we are both going outside to "discuss" our opinions. I am a very patient person (making amends for my youth). Dude stared me ddown or tried to when discussing liability. I left at that point because I would have been on the monetary losing side.
Take care,
Brian
