Yellow rocks.

Theres only 5 Yellow rx8s on the Goldcoast, 3 are Automatics in a population of 500,000 people .

Having the manual 6 speed leather pack makes my car pretty special . :D

cheers

I love the way Lightning Yellow looks, it is a great shade of yellow. Digital pics just can't capture it right. I've had nothing but compliments on the color, surprisingly more from the ladies than the guys. Back in '93, I wanted a competition yellow mica RX-7, but my wife talked me out of it and we got red. This time my wife actually liked Lightning Yellow better than Velocity Red, so I'm a happy man.

I've been tracking the dealer inventory here in Hawaii since the car was first introduced on July 11th, 2003. There are less than 20 yellows on the road, out of which I've only seen two other yellows besides mine. The 6 spd yellows seem to sell quickly here, they come in and then are gone in less than a month or two. However, the automatics aren't as popular. On the island of Oahu (which is the most populated island) there is only one 6 spd left in yellow, but 5 automatics can still be had.

I might have looked at it if it were like Ferrari yellow. I think the Mazda yellow has a tint of green in it, so I did not care for that particular shade. I have always owned red sports cars, but the Mazda red has a hint of orange it it. So I went black, and am very happy with it.

Just my opinion.

Love my yellow 8. Wife wanted blue but luckily they didn't have any close. It's my car anyway.

Interesting, I don't see any green in it, but maybe it's just my eyes. To me the lightning yellow is kind of close to the Ferrari yellow, but I'd need to see 'em side by side. To each his own, enjoy!

Yellow touch up paint scarcity in Canada

Agree~RX-8 Lightning Yellow is quite deceptive and difficult to capture photographically, as was mentioned. It is also quite unlike the M6 and M3 tones ( don't know about the Miata), I found out yesterday . I need a container of LY touchup to repair two tiny stone chips on the hood, before the 3M front 'mask' installer will apply the film. Have been waiting more than a week. None available at any dealership in the Greater Toronto Area. Online parts data base for Canada shows nada available..
Although it's on back order, [possibly from Japan] the parts guy, my saleman and I tried applying test samples of the other two on white paper and then comparing them to my car... in sun, partial sun, shade. Nowhere close..

Have faxed Canzoomer to see if they have any in stock. Maybe we all should stock up! [I think I'll order two as I'm passing it on to my son at the end of the 4-year lease].

Nevertheless I love it!

I got a smilar offer as "canaryrx8" when i was at the dealer. i went to get thier only yellow one in stock because it wasnt moving and there was an ad in the local paper with a deal that was great. when i got there i was kind of put off by the color. it was just too bright. i still liked it but in a small town where local cops would be able to remember and spot a bright yellow car right away, i started looking for another option. i ended up with a the second most rare (or most rare depending on who you talk to) nordic green. i loved both colors but had to go with something a little more low key. I wanted something different and not go with the safe choice black, red, or silver. they are always nice but i see them alittle too much. i always feel like i am part of a little seperate rx8 club consisting of green and yellow owners because i dont think that most rx8 owners ever really consider the 2 colors and alway seem to like them when they see them in person.

I had the reverse happen to me. I went in to get yellow, but the dealer tried to sway me to a nordic green which had been sitting for a while. Obviously I stayed with yellow, but nordic green is nice too.

Nordic green is nice however way to hard to keep clean and would get to hot for our weather HERE IN MY PART OF AUSTRALIA .

Unfortunately most people upon seeing the nordic green initially think its BLACK . :p

cheers

I concur. When I first saw a green I thought, "what's wrong with that black car?"

Love my yellow...

My first RX was an RX7 that I saved from a guy who kept putting holes in it. He thought he was Michael Knight building another KnightRider car.... Every time my ex-wife got in the car, it broke down. Having hind sight, I should've gotten rid of the ex- sooner

My current wife calls my '04 Yellow '8 my mid-life crisis.... I've named her 'Tammy' and told the wife it's the only blonde I'll bring home. She's a keeper this time (both the current wife and my new 8).

As for tickets, I was doing 110 down I-75 through Kentucky when the local drug interdiction unit pulled me over. No tickets - they just wanted to know more about the car! :D

I knew as soon as I walked on the lot that I was getting yellow. My eyes slid right across all of the others and just locked on that one lonely yellow 8. By the way, they delivered it here about 4 hours ago and it's love, my friends...true love!

Follow up

No Lightning Yellow touch up Canada! Even Canzoomer says s-o-o-l, er, out of stock. In order to have the 3M stone guard install completed, my dealer had a batch manufactured by a company that specializes in computerized mixing. They had to get a quart.. minimal.. enuff for every LY owner hereabouts! :p An exact match, so they say. Will find out tomorrow when I take her in..

I think I'd rather have a yellow 7 FD, than a yellow 8.

Yeah, tempting for sure. Mazda Scarborough HQ told Whitby they had zip; perhaps yours was the last one, or a shipment has just arrived. Makes ya wonder if 'they' do pay attention these forums? Anyway, that's good news.

Hmmm, there's two threads going on this...

I have the ONLY yellow fellow in Manchester (UK) - dealer even rang the other two dealers round the area to check! The staff loved it when it finally came in.

It's now discontinued so the only place I expect to see another is at car shows. :D (I saw one in the public car park of a race track earlier in the year, and another which belongs to Mazda they lent to a security / ICE company for a demonstrator.)

Here in the UK the car is built to order - they don't sit on forecourts waiting to be sold. I had to wait nearly 5 months for mine from putting the deposit / downpayment on to actually picking it up.

There's a few yellow FDs around though...

Me too

I just picked up a yellow one this Saturday, the dealer I went to had none, and the dealer had to have the car driven in ~ 140 miles for me. But you are correct in that they are hard to find...... thankfully I did not have to wait 4-5 months for it.

No idea how many yellows were made, but I monitored the dealer inventory in my area every day through June and July, keeping track of 6MT's with fabric (what I wanted) . The inventory held pretty steady until a couple of weeks ago.

In early August three got sold in one weekend. Off to the dealer I went and grabbed one, before it was too late.

Now I've got one and there are only two left within 100 miles.

I'm yellow and I'm proud!

I picked mine up little more than a month ago, and got what I consider to be a completely killer deal on it - I'm leasing it, and I'm paying $362 a month for 48 months, nothing down, tax and license in the payment and ZERO but ZERO due at inception - I signed and drove, that was it. This on an RX-8 that stickered out at $34,804 - it has all available options - GT, appearance, spoiler, accent, navi, 6 disc changer, spare tire, trunk organizer, etc. etc. etc.

The best quote I got from anyone else on any other color was in the mid $400's for the same terms, AND with first payment and security deposit at inception - about $950. I got it in Evanston IL (ritzy Chicago suburb) and the dealer there told me he was willing to "sacrifice" it to get it off his lot. He needed to move more cars to up his allocation for the next month, and especially of RX-8's, and he was willing to completely "dump" this one because "no one in this rich suburb will buy a car that's this color" and that "this color is what the kids want, but no 20 year old can afford a $35,000 car" ... so, their loss, my gain.

I just turned 42 and decided "what the hell" ... let's shake things up. I traded a "Banker's Grey" silver Acura TL on it ...

The funniest thing is that I bought this over the internet - had never seen the yellow -8 except in pictures and when they rolled it out of the delivery bay, I couldn't believe how damn bright it was! But, quite fun! I love it.

My friends all think I'm insane, which personally, I think I have them exactly where I want them!

Stew
